About this listen

CNN chief medical correspondent Sanjay Gupta, MD, offers an accessible, data-packed answer to our biggest questions about Covid-19: What have we learned about this pandemic and how can we prepare for—or prevent—the next one?

As America’s favorite frontline Covid-19 health journalist, Dr. Sanjay Gupta has barely left his primetime seat in his makeshift studio basement since the pandemic began (other than to perform brain surgery). He’s had insider access to the drama’s unfolding, including exclusive conversations with the world’s top public health experts and behind-the-scenes scientists racing to find treatments and cures. And now he’s sharing what he’s learned in a book that will answer not only all our questions about what happened, but also about how our world will change in the years ahead, even once we’re back to “normal.”

Gupta argues that we need to prepare for a new era where pandemics will be more frequent, and possibly even more deadly. As the doctor who’s been holding America’s hand through the crisis with compassion, clarity, and well-earned wisdom, he gives you the unvarnished story behind the pandemic, including insights about the novel virus’s behavior, and offers practical tools to ready ourselves for what lies ahead. He answers critical questions: Can we stamp out the virus for good (and if not, how do we live with it)? Should we put our parents in a nursing home? Where should we live? What should we stockpile? What should we know before taking a trip? Does it make sense to spend more on health insurance to deal with any long-term effects? How do you decide when it’s safe to go to a public pool or schedule elective surgery? What should Covid survivors know about protecting their future health? What if you become a long-hauler with chronic health challenges stemming?

World War C will give you hope for the future along with real information that leaves you more resilient and secure.

Informative Postmortem and Prescription

Dr Gupta is good at explaining this incredibly complicated pandemic, while remaining personable in showcasing its (and our responses to it's) impact.

The advice parts of the book is also great. It does condescend not catastrophize. It just explains, advises and encourages.

Great book - excited to hear more!

I enjoyed hearing the doctor going to different countries. I would like for him to write about cranial trepanations by the Icans in Peru given that Dr Gupta is a neurosurgeon.

Thank you Dr. Gupta!!

Yes, I am a Fan of Dr. Sanjay Gupta,,, I have been for many years and I truly appreciate his thoughtful way of explaining "medical stuff" that makes me feel empowered and "in charge" of my own self. I tell people "Dr. Gupta just gets me." which generally gets a good chuckle because I am a crabby 'Ole Nana from the Midwest! All that being said, I am not a person who likes to talk or read or learn about "body stuff" because it just makes me anxious and confused and then I will just worry about everything and feel dumb about it all... Dr. Gupta has such a kind and caring voice I feel that he is sitting in a room talking straight to me, and he is always making sure that I hear him and most importantly that I understand him. I listen to his books on Audible, and I have also bought a few to use as reference (and gifts!).

This book, about "the COVID" is very detailed and informative. I would also say it is "technical" and thoroughly complete. most importantly, I feel that this book has made me feel more COMFORTABLE about the situation we find ourselves in now. That is exactly what I was looking for, not blame or causation or minute details. I just need to know what happened, and point me in the direction for where to go next. I am truly thankful for the people in the world that enjoy the "autopsy", I prefer to look for my next best course of action and what do I need to do now? Dr. Gupta covers all of these bases for me in a clear, specific manner which leaves me ready to search for more instead of feeling scared and overwhelmed.

Anyway, the dishwasher needs to be unloaded so I am going to hit "repeat" and start over. Just wanted to share my thoughts after the first listen!
