Publisher's summary

Worry consumes time and energy, too often isolates us from friends and family, and prevents us from solving the real problems that are behind the act of worrying. Dr. Edward M. Hallowell makes clear the crucial distinctions among the various forms of worry, showing which are protective and productive, which handicap achievement and pleasure, and which seriously threaten physical health and mental balance. He explains which forms of worry are rooted in inborn predispositions, which arise from misguided attempts to cope with the stresses of daily life, and which are symptomatic of other problems, such as depression or attention deficit disorder. In each case, he maps out the most effective strategies for change - psychotherapy, medication, innovative methods of retraining the brain - many of which the chronic worrier can pursue on his or her own.

Filled with illuminating case histories, anecdotes, and practical guidance, Worry is an invaluable aid to understanding and coping with one of the most common and debilitating but least understood states of mind.

Very good.

Where does Worry rank among all the audiobooks you’ve listened to so far?

It's up near the top. Very informative.

What other book might you compare Worry to and why?

Panic and Anxiety Self-Help.

Have you listened to any of Pete Larkin’s other performances before? How does this one compare?

No. Cannot compare.

Did you have an extreme reaction to this book? Did it make you laugh or cry?

No. It helped me understand a bit more about the worry factor within people.

Any additional comments?

A bit much with the doctor-patient experience, but ok, I suppose it was necessary.

I leaned a lot!

Just now finished. It's a long book. There were times I thought maybe I'll skip this chapter, this is a little bit hard to listen to, but I continued on because I knew I needed to hear it. I took notes and will keep a list nearby when I find my worry getting out of hand. It's hard to explain but just listening to this book and taking notes over a couple of weeks caused me to stop worrying so much and start planning and organizing instead. This is a much more productive way to live. I would recommend this to anyone!

I love It got right to the meat and potatoes about what worry is all about and how it affects you in so many negative ways in your life. When you can identify True healing starts happening in your life. Love the narrators really calm voice and experience.

Good book about - worry

Worry was a very good book about (wait for it) … Worry. There was, of course, some of the expected stuff I already knew about worry – how debilitating it can be in its worst forms and how common it is. But there were also some good strategies for dealing with worry, and some enlightening information about how worry is linked with other psychological problems which may make it worse or more difficult to deal with. As with many books dealing with psychological issues, there was information on when to seek psychiatric help, possibly including drug therapy, and when and how to work at reducing, or using your worry, on your own.

Painful to listen to..

The only thing I got out of this book from the brief writing before they break into tedious case studies (with some of the worst dialogue I’ve read), was to share your worry and not be alone with it. Solid but obvious. I gave up when I realized I’d have to listen to another 10hrs of painful stories to try and glean anything else.

Little useful info, dreadful narrator

What disappointed you about Worry?

Nothing concrete, other than the obvious.

Would you ever listen to anything by Edward M. Hallowell, MD again?

Nope

How did the narrator detract from the book?

Audible must make these narrators stop doing voices. Look, I get that you're a frustrated actor, and this is the best you can do to make ends meet, but stop doing the voices. They are annoying and make the experience so frustrating it's impossible to concentrate on the book.

What reaction did this book spark in you? Anger, sadness, disappointment?

Anger-see my comments about the narrator
