Publisher's summary

As a freelance writer, Jack Naile was used to getting an occasional letter from one of his readers, but when one of those readers sent him a clipping from a magazine, it would not only change his life, but could alter the course of history as well.

The clipping had a photo, taken in Nevada in 1903, of a street scene, including a story with a sign, "Jack Naile - General Merchandise". Intrigued, Jack phoned the Nevada town's historian and asked for more information. When the historian sent him a photo of the 19th century Jack Naile, what had seemed like an interesting coincidence immediately became much more bizarre.

The four people in the photo, dressed in the style of the time, were unmistakably Jack, his wife, and their grown son and teenage daughter. Jack decided he would have to take a trip to that town to investigate further. And if he and his family were somehow going to travel back in time, he was going to be prepared - and be well-armed.

Contains mature themes.

SMOKE NS CURSE way toexcess

Writers confuse smoking and reeling off values of curse words with tougheness and nearly blank the story out, the characters are committed to urinating, a lot, with occasional defecation for variety --- the story line suffers ...

AWESOME story… not so great reader

Wow! I have to be honest and say I had a hard time getting into this story because of the narrator. He might be better for another type of read. He reminded me of Judd Nelson in the Breakfast Club when he was telling us about his Christmas morning gift… a carton of cigarettes.. “ Smoke up Johnny!” Very robotic. And unlike Judd’s character who was being angry and sarcastic about his story, this readers robotic read was VERY distracting! HOWEVER, the story… THE STORY was AWESOME. THE AHERNS weaved a wonderful and different time travel tale that carries you away into the story…. THAT is what saved this recording… once you can get past the narration. I’ve listened to this book twice because I enjoyed the STORY so much. They masterfully weaved the old west into 20th century technology and back again. A storyline I often wondered about myself. What would it be like to travel back in time, live that life knowing what I knew about the future. I’d love to see more stories like this one, or a continuation of WRITTEN IN TIME, by the AHERN’s! A very enjoyable and satisfying tale, even with a bad narration. Dont let the narration stop you from this creative story!

Fun and interesting

A little king on repeating the make and model of guns over and over, but good story line and fun listening

Time Travel!

Ok, this book is not going to win any national book awards but it's a fun time travel story. I don't ask a lot from books except to be entertained, That's it, I'm not a book critic and won't pretend to be like many on Audible, If the premise sounds interesting then I'm there! This is that kind of book. The story was good, the narraration, while adequate, is not up to par and lacks the skills of the greats (Brick, Muller, Vance, etc.) If you want to escape for awhile and forget about "dump and covid" this book will work.

Romance scene KILLED IT

I am still in the beginning of this book. The reader is good, the story is engaging . And then ……. They had a romance scene , ….. I literally became nauseous. This was absolutely ridiculous and if you cannot write a romance scene then for the LOVE of GOD just freaken skip that part. Stick to time travel.
I’m trying to muscle through it hoping they just don’t have any more of that because ……. It was atrocious.

silly TV cowboy references

although I adhere to objectives philosophy and love to read those of my elk ,I found the book silly. The constant reference to TV and old western movies got old quick. good try. I did finish and enjoyed the book. a fun B movie at best.Hoppalong would be proud

great story and the scenes well illustrated in words.

the story line changes abruptly sometimes to throw off the listener. it is easy enough to get back on track though.

Intriguing

I think this was a good story, it was a different kind of concept traveling through time in this story. I found it very intriguing, however whoever produced this book needs to have the narrator slow down between scene changes. it's very hard to keep up when there's no pause between scenes.

Disappointed

I liked the idea of a time travel novel. I wasn’t really disappointed with the story but I was completely disappointed with all uncalled for foul language. I would have scored it much higher if not for the language. My family loves it when we listen together. Just a let down.
