They say to keep your enemies close, but "they" never had to deal with the likes of Alec Daniels, the broody bad boy next door who loved to make my life a living nightmare...up until the day he disappeared.

See, Alec was a thief. He stole my happy. My sanity. My first kiss.

I told myself I was glad the day he went away, and I'm reminded of why not five minutes after his sudden and unexpected return.

Now he stands before me with a heavy glare and hard body. But those greedy green eyes, they're darker than I remember, and brimming with a secret....

A secret I didn't discover until it was far too late.

Because this time, he didn't steal a simple kiss. This time...Alec Daniels stole my all.

Contains mature themes.

Boys next door, times two? The story starts with young Alec when little miss Oakley moves into the neighborhood. Love at first sight is an understatement. All of their childhood he had to fight for her attention away from another neighborhood boys' direction, even if that meant getting negative attention from her in return. Now they're all grown up and helping to run and teach at her father's firefighting academy-BLAZE ACADEMY- while he's away on business. Alec works for Blaze and has just returned from a 2yr job to help Oakley run the academy.

Meagan Brandy is brilliant with keeping secrets between characters, but away from the reader. It keeps you on the edge of your seat and creating theories in your mind of what it could all mean. This book has more intense deep secrets that keep you guessing. It's the biggest number one thing I love about books from Meagan. She also writes male characters with them knowing what they want and not afraid to get it. Alec won't let anything get in his way anymore. His patience is worn thin and he needs Oakley to be his. Guess you'll just have to listen to see how Alex fairs in trying to win Oakley's heart and to see if you fall in love with Alec like I did. Intense alphahole in this book and although some bullying is mentioned it's not a present theme throughout the book. Not a high school or college setting. This takes place with the the main characters Mid to early Twenties but they themselves do not attend, they teach 😉. Absolutely great series and ⚠️WARNING⚠️ do not throw your phone! Enjoy! I know I did!

A breath-taking standalone!

I like the story but I almost gave up because of the MC narration, as Alec he was fine but as the other voices he was not so much and a little cringy to listen too. I was rooting for Alec the entire time just waiting for Oakly to see him. Good Enemies to Lovers story.

GREAT READ

I really liked both narrators! Male narrator’s voice is really nice and kind of hot… people are being unnecessarily mean… what I didn’t like was the way story went downhill at about 50% and then the cheating trope (between MC) was thrown in the mix… from that moment I no longer felt drawn to the story or characters…

Male narrator’s voice is really nice!

I liked the story, though I found it a bit frustrating at times. The plot was a little confusing but that was probably so you would experience it with the FML.

The male narrator almost killed the whole experience for me. His voice was grating and the characters he came up with completely killed the mood the author was going for. Does he seriously think that’s how women sound??

The female narrator saved the book. Thank goodness most of the story is in her voice.

Good Story But the Male Narrator… Ugh

The story is ok, I expected better from the writer, something like ’Say you swear’, but I was disappointed with this one.
The narrator was terrible tho, it was grating on my nerves. He is in the wrong business.

The male Narrator was unbearable

This story had me all twisted up. The smartest thing Meagan Brandy did was writing the prologue from Alec’s POV so I understood his motivations from the word go. Oakley started out as your typical romance heroine, but as the storyline took some turns, so did my opinion of her. It was nice to see her show what made her worthy to be Blaze. Similar to how Blackline and Blaze were shown to have hidden depths, almost every character had something going on below the surface, and each new reveal kept me one my toes. Definitely a story I wouldn’t mind revisiting.

So many “wait, what?” Moments

Wish it dug deeper into their backstory and profession. Didn’t like the male narrator, every character sounded nasally. Love Brady’s books so didn’t return.

Good story

Lots of drama, even though I did guess correctly on a couple of issues before revealed. But still a good read.
