Excellent Continuation!

Every book in the series gets better and more organized. The battles in this book were a primary focus, being narrated to full choreography. There were a number of twists and permanent changes in cast which brought a glint of reality; plot armor doesn't exist in the real world, which the author is presenting as such. It answers many questions from earlier books but leaves just enough open ended for the next book.

Words and concepts are perfect for adolescent readers, ages 12 & up, similarly to the first book. That said, I fully enjoyed it as an adult reader.

Michele's performance of character voices has been consistent throughout the series and is certainly an asset to the work Keira has created.

I highly recommend this series and this author for adolescent and adult readers alike. I look forward to following Zaria and her friends on their adventures; now someone get Aleks some another plate of food, already.
Highly Recommended.

The Sacrifices that we Make for Family

This installment is all about family, the good guys', the bad guys', and everybody in between. Old relationships are renewed and new contacts are made. Family ties are weakened, strengthened, tested, and sacrificed for. Contracts, and deals are made and broken. Also, as always, words have power and mistakes have consequences.

There is a great deal of family and political history explained in this one, including why Lady's footwear is so important. As always the narrator does a great job, and the mysterious singer from the last book also returns for a repeat performance. The one problem is the singer's voice is a lot louder than the standard narration, so it can be a bit startling when it first begins.

I truly enjoyed the roles of the humans in this book. Many times in heavy fantasy novels, normal humans are treated as fodder, or supporting cast. In this case however, those with no magic in a land full of magical beings and creatures have to use technology and tactics to overcome challenges. Interestingly enough their lack of magic and magical experience means that they don't know what they can or cannot do according to the "rules of magic" that everybody else knows. This makes for some unexpected experiences and outcomes.

Fun dialogues and fairytale creatures....

This is part three of the Zaria Fierce trilogy. Of course there is a great showdown (which I won't say anything about - listen to it yourself).

In this book I liked the dialogues between Zaria and her friends in particular. Listening was fun to me.

Also, you can hear the narrator singing once again and the story is full of elves, trolls, dwarfs and dragons - that had my imagination running wild. Oh, and losing one's shoes can be a drama :-)

Recommended.

This book was given to me for free at my request and I provided this voluntary review.

Wonderful Trilogy

I received this book for free. I am voluntarily posting this review and all opinions expressed herein are my own.

This is the third book in the trilogy of Zaria Fierce. It is not really a standalone - in that there's a fair amount which has occurred to Zaria and her friends by the time she reaches the third book and this is not the place to pick up the story. Start with the first book -- "Zaria Fierce and the Secret of Gloomwood Forest." Another reason not to start with the third book of a trilogy is that this story actually continues with a focus on Zaria's friend Aleks.

The age group for this book is probably from 7 or 8 through adult. As an adult, I have enjoyed this series tremendously. It is chock-full of nice life lessons, vocabulary words, and good humor, which can be enjoyed by the whole family. I love that the focus in these books is on friendship and family. Zaria and her friends are realistic characters. Their friendships and conversations are very true-to-life. I liked both their growth as individuals and as a group. Zaria, throughout books one and two, lacks confidence but it is with the help of her friends that she finally can do what needs to be done and is starting to see herself as her friends see her - a very capable young girl. I loved the scene where Zaria conjures up food for her friends - be warned, it is best not to be on a diet while listening to these scrumptious meals.

The narrator, Michele Carpenter, is the same for all three books. She is spectacular. She has different voices for all of the main characters and for all of the creatures they meet - from the brownies to dragons to trolls to elves. My favorite voice of hers is that of Koll. Her enthusiasm, as she narrates, is absolutely addicting and pulls you in as you continue to listen. She really compliments the written word with her narration.
