About this listen

For the millions of children around the world who loved The Island of the Blue Dolphins, Scott O'Dell continues the breathtaking story of Karana, a Native American woman stranded on an island off the coast of California. O'Dell mixes stirring drama with historical insights into 18th-century California Mission life to create an unforgettable sequel to a modern classic of children's literature.

I grew up never knowing Kurana was rescued! I didn’t know this book existed! I’m almost sad it does after finishing. She had such hopes of seeing her sister and people again. It’s almost as if she was disappointed and lived her life on and off the island in a lonely world of her own, despite having a niece and nephew whom she couldn’t fully understand were her family. But I liked Zia and how she wouldn’t to give up on Kurana.

Great to find out what happened after Island of the Blue Dolphins. Love the reader also. She did a great job.

This was an enjoyable book. Both my son who was 10 and I listened with intrigue. The vocabulary was wonderful and introduced us to some words we did not already know. We are home schooling and used this as one of our authors to study works by this year. We also thought the narrator did a fantastic job and enjoyed the way that she spoke.

Great book!

I first bought Island of the Blue Dolphins because of have a partly ruined copy on my bookshelf and I do prefer audiobooks when I can get them. I remembered that I had read a borrowed copy of Zia years ago and even remembered bits of the story. I did enjoy the story and it was sad that Karana died in the end. Even though this story was made for children it wasn’t so immature that couldn’t enjoy it. I’m glad I bought it.

A good story
