The National Mall in Washington, DC, is home to the world-renowned Smithsonian Museums and millions of visitors each year come to view the vast collections held here—however—they rarely look at the OUTSIDE of the buildings, and most know very little of the history of this place called the National Mall. BrightPath Tours would like to change that! With Part I of our Walk Around the National Mall, we will stop at each of the buildings on the South side of the Mall and we'll discuss a variety of topics that includes the history of each site.

Looking for a different tour of Washington, DC? Your host, BrightPath Tours, will take you for a walk along one of the most famous streets in the United States: Constitution Avenue. Walk at your own pace, on your own schedule! This tour begins at Constitution Avenue and 22nd Street, at the Einstein Memorial. Along the route, we’ll see buildings that house world leaders in science, finance, diplomacy, and humanitarian relief efforts. The tour ends at the headquarters of the American Red Cross, which honors the founders of this world-renowned relief organization.

The Baltimore Clipper ship Frolic was bound from Canton, China, to San Francisco with household goods for gold miners. The shipwreck of the Frolic lead to the founding of the town of Mendocino, California, and the discovery of redwood trees. We speak with archeologists who are studying this important early California event. The Frolic Shipwreck is now a California Underwater State Park.

The Ellipse is one small area in front of the South Lawn of the White House. Although we don't have to cross a single street, this tour is a BIG challenge. Instead of the open areas similar to the National Mall, this is a very enclosed, highly secured part of DC. We're lucky to be able to tour here! On a busy canal lined street in Amsterdam, Anne Frank and her Jewish family hid from the Nazis near the end of WWII. Anne Frank wrote accounts of their lives in this confinement. Learning from the one radio they shared and quietly listened to, Anne hoped her diary would be published. It was published posthumously, by her father; Anne's only relative to survive the Nazi death camps.

A special centennial project, 100 Amazing Objects is spread throughout the Museum's galleries. It is composed of three tours - coded red, green and blue - which focus on a wide-ranging group of amazing objects that will take you from Science to Asia, starting on the third floor of the Museum's Main building. The tours move through all of the galleries, including Natural Science, Native American, Arts of Africa, Classical, American Art, Decorative Arts, Arts of Asia, ending on the third floor of the North Wing.

Audio Journeys explores a small patch of some of the Republic of El Salvador's last remaining rainforests. Fifty spider monkeys live in the canopy of 300-year-old trees. The spider monkeys are protected as long as they stay in this very small area, known as the Chaguantique Nature Reserve.

This important private reserve is maintained by El Salvador's ministry of Natural Resources.
