Today we take for granted the exploration of the fascinating submarine depths of the oceans, so ubiquitous are its many representations on our screens. It is therefore surprising to realise that in his thrilling 1869 novel Jules Verne was anticipating much which was then not even imagined by science. The enigmatic Captain Nemo takes his awe-inspiring Nautilus around the Oceans of the world exploring the deep with its wonders and horrors.

The Underground City is a novel about the fortunes of a mining community at Aberfoyle, Scotland. Miner James Starr, after receiving a letter from an old friend, leaves for the Aberfoyle mine. Although believed to be mined out a decade earlier, James Starr finds a mine overman, Simon Ford, along with his family living deep inside the mine. Simon Ford has found a large vein of coal in the mine but the characters must deal with mysterious and unexplainable happenings in and around the mine.

Da quel momento prende avvio una serie incessante di avventure che coinvolge i viaggiatori, in un susseguirsi di ostacoli (molti) e di colpi di fortuna (pochi).

Grandi descrizioni geografiche, il libro è avvincente e istruttivo. Adatto a tutti.

Twenty Thousand Leagues Under the Sea is a classic in which Verne prophesized many modern uses of the submarine. The story concerns the now famous fictional character Captain Nemo and his submarine, Nautilus, as seen by one of his passengers, Professor Pierre Aronnax. Over the years there have been many film, TV, and theatrical adaptations and variations of the book.

An eccentric geology professor acquires an old book and hidden within its pages finds an ancient parchment. On it is a coded message that reveals directions to a secret passageway that leads deep within the earth's interior. The professor immediately sets off on a daring journey to Iceland, where he and his companions enter into an extinct volcano and make their way to the center of the earth.

To take on the bet - to go around the world in eighty days, faster than anyone had gone before - was madness. If Phileas Fogg missed a single connection, he would lose 20,000 pounds.
