Book 1 in the best-selling "Roland Benito" series. On a humid and rain-filled summer day in the Danish suburb of Brabrand, the body of a ten-year-old girl is found lifeless in a dumpster. Detective Inspector Roland Benito is immediately put on the case. Reporter Anne Larsen and freelance photographer, Kamilla Holm, are covering the case for The Daily News and the deeper they look into the story, the more entangled they become. It quickly becomes apparent to all involved, that the crime is linked to an internet chat site where the murdered girl had a profile.

After working on a TV segment about an art exhibition opening in Randers, Anne Larsen decides to visit Liv Løkke and her brother. When she arrives at Liv’s address, she sees the door to her apartment is open, and she is afraid something happened to her. Liv is not there, but Anne has her horrible suspicions confirmed. They have to find the killer to prevent them from committing any more murders. It will be a nerve-wrecking challenge for Anne Larsen, Roland Benito, and his coworker.

Bertram and his three friends have formed a small gang of thieves called The Ravens. He lives alone with his mom, who works as a waitress. He doesn´t remember his father much, as the latter was arrested for murder and sentenced to life imprisonment when Bertram was only seven years old. One day, Bertram steals an expensive "Schott Made in USA" leather jacket from a restaurant, which will have fatal consequences, and not just for Bertram.

Johan Boje, a police assistant for Mid- and Western Jutland dies after being hit by a speeding car outside his home one late night in March. His boss, Alex Borg, is one of the firsts to arrive at the scene of the crime. It quickly dawns on him that this is not a simple case of hit-and-run, but rather a very brutal murder. Boje's nine-year-old son claims he saw the car, and that it was a police officer behind the wheel.

Anne Larsen, journalist with TV2 East Jutland, is covering the case of the officer from Silkeborg who was seemingly hit and killed by a colleague in front of his home. Her interest is seriously piqued by a fire accident that he was secretly investigating. She starts looking at it closer.

Liv Løkke works at Netto in Paderup, as a checkout girl. She hates the town, herself, her job, and her trivial life; and she barely has to look at the shoppers to know who they are. She knows most people in the neighborhood and their shopping habits. But one day, she has to look at a costumer who buys an item that reminds her of her past, and the fateful day when she saved her brother from the burning house, after a gas explosion killed her mother. It is him...her mother’s lover.

Liv Løkke has nightmares, after the fire and her past were brought back to her present. She is contacted by Anne Larsen. The journalist has visited her brother, and she is so curious about what she wanted from him, that she reluctantly agrees to meet her at a café in Randers. But the journalist’s claims make her so furious; she leaves the café in a rage. When she sees a newspaper poster that says Johan Boje’s son saw the murderer, she goes to Johan Boje’s house and meets the son in front of his father’s memorial.

The Independent Police Complaints Commission has no leads. But after interrogating Johan Boje’s wife and colleagues, Roland Benito is convinced the cop was not a faithful husband. The murderer may have had other motives than those they are working with. They interrogate Johan Boje’s son, Lukas, who was closer to the murder than previously assumed. The investigation takes a new turn when Anne Larsen seeks out Rolando. She tells him what she discovered, and that she suspects that Johan Boje’s interest in the fire was personal.

Bertram og hans tre venner, Bjarke, Kasper og Felix, er næsten lige gået ud af skolen og har dannet en lille bande, som kalder sig Ravnene. De arbejder for Hæleren, som betaler dem for at lave indbrud og skaffe dyre designermøbler på bestilling af Hælerens kunder. Bertram bor alene sammen med sin mor, der arbejder som servitrice i restaurant Firkløveret. Hun tror, at Bertram tjener sine penge som reklameomdeler. Bertram husker ikke sin far særlig godt, han var kun syv år, da faren blev anholdt for drab og idømt fængsel på livstid.

Johan Boje, officer with the police force of Central and West Jutland, is killed by a hit-and-run driver in front of his house, during a late night in March. His boss, Axel Borg, is one of the first people at the crime scene and here, he realizes the brutality of the murder. Johan Boje’s nine-year-old son says he saw the car and the driver, whom he claims is a police officer.

En kall vinternatt sker ännu ett av de många hemrån som under lång tid plågat Östjylland. Och just den här gången går något fruktansvärt fel. I köket på sin ödsligt belägna gård blir Albert Hovgaard brutalt ihjälslagen. När polisen Roland Benito tar sig an fallet visar det sig snart bli betydligt mer komplicerat än han inledningsvis trott. Det som till en början sett ut som ett fall i mängden verkar plötsligt vara någonting helt annat. Något som är både större och mer ondskefullt än ett simpelt hemrån som eskalerat.

En regnig sommardag i den danska förorten Brabrand hittas en tioårig flicka mördad i en soptunna. Fallet hamnar på kriminalassistent Roland Benitos skrivbord och Östjyllandpolisen inleder en skrämmande utredning av mordet på den lilla flickan. Vid sidan om har även journalisten Anne Larsen och frilansfotografen Kamilla Holm fått upp ögonen för mordet och börjar gräva i mysteriet på eget håll.

Blodet glimter i eftermiddagssolen på Store Torv i Aarhus. På brostenene ligger to næsten nøgne dyreaktivister fra organisationen "We Protect Animals" (WPA). De blodige kroppe skal symbolisere slagtede grise eller flåede mink. Men ikke alt blodet er teaterblod - de to unge aktivister spiller ikke kun døde, og en tredje aktivist er kørt bevidstløs til hospitalet. Hvordan er det lykkedes at dræbe aktivisterne midt i en aktion med opmærksomhed fra tilskuere og presse? Og hvem har ønsket at slå dem ihjel?

C'est un défi nerveusement éprouvant que vont devoir relever Anne Larsen, Roland Benito et son coéquipier.

Liv Løkke fait des cauchemars depuis que l'incendie et son passé lui sont revenus en pleine figure. Elle est contactée par Anne Larsen. La journaliste a rendu visite à son frère, et elle est tellement curieuse de savoir ce qu'elle lui voulait qu'elle accepte à contrecœur un rendez-vous dans un café de Randers. Mais les affirmations de la journaliste la rendent tellement furieuse qu'elle quitte le café en trombe.

L'inspection Générale de la Police Nationale n'a aucune piste. Mais après avoir interrogé la femme de Johan Boje ainsi que ses collègues, Roland Benito est convaincu que le policier n'était pas un mari fidèle. Le meurtrier devait avoir d'autres motivations que celles sur lesquelles ils enquêtent. Ils interrogent le fils de Johan Boje, Lukas, qui était encore plus près du meurtre que ce qu'ils avaient imaginé. L'enquête prend un nouveau tournant lorsque Anne Larsen entre en contact avec Roland.

Liv Løkke travaille comme hôtesse de caisse au Netto de Paderup. Elle déteste cette ville, elle-même, son boulot et sa vie insignifiante ; et elle n'a qu'à jeter un coup d'œil aux acheteurs pour savoir qui ils sont. Elle connaît la plupart des gens du coin, ainsi que leurs achats habituels. Mais un jour, elle se retrouve face à un client qui achète un article lui rappelant son passé, et ce jour funeste où elle sauva son frère de leur maison en feu, après qu'une explosion de gaz tua leur mère. C'est lui... L'amant de sa mère.
