This latest installment in the Inspector Montalbano series finds Montalbano in search of his missing right-hand man. Before leaving for vacation with Livia, Montalbano witnesses a seagull doing an odd dance on the beach outside his home - and then the bird suddenly drops dead. Stopping in at his office for a quick check before heading off, he notices that Fazio is nowhere to be found and soon learns that he was last seen on the docks, secretly working on a case.

A "wild west" tale of two brothers who battle both the state and a mafia empire in 1920s Italy, from famed Italian author Andrea Camilleri. Raffadali, province of Agrigento, 1920s. The Sacco brothers are free men with strong ideas about socialism and the state. Their lives change radically one morning when their father, Luigi Sacco, receives an anonymous letter from the local Mafia demanding protection money and is the victim of a robbery attempt. Luigi tells the police of the extortion letters he received, but the police don't know what to do.

Montalbano's gruesome discovery of a naked young woman suffocated in her bed immediately sets him on a search for her killer. Among the suspects are her aging husband, a famous doctor; a shy admirer, now disappeared; an antiques-dealing lover from Bologna; and the victim's friend Anna, whose charms Montalbano cannot help but appreciate. But it is a mysterious, reclusive violinist who holds the key to this murder....

When a crazed elderly man and his sister begin firing bullets from their balcony down onto the Vigàta street below, Inspector Montalbano finds himself a reluctant television hero. A few days later, when a letter arrives containing a mysterious riddle, the Inspector becomes drawn into a perplexing treasure hunt set by an anonymous challenger. As the hunt intensifies, Montalbano is relieved to be offered the assistance of Arturo Pennisi, a young man eager to witness the detective's investigative skills firsthand.

Tutto inizia con un cellulare spento. A telefonare è Ester, a non rispondere è Giulio, finito in ospedale a causa di un brutto tamponamento sulla via Aurelia. A riaccendere il telefonino, invece, è Giuditta, la moglie di Giulio, che ovviamente di Ester non sa nulla. Potrebbe essere l'inizio di una commedia rosa, ma il colore di questa storia è decisamente un altro: un testimone, infatti, sostiene che quello di Giulio non sia stato un incidente, ma un tentato omicidio, e la pratica passa dagli uffici dell'assicurazione a quelli del commissariato.

Un robo absurdo en un supermercado, el encarcelamiento un tanto estrambótico de un capo de la mafia, un asesinato cometido durante la Segunda Guerra Mundial. Sin embargo, a pesar de la firme determinación con que Montalbano afronta la resolución de estos casos, su auténtica pasión es descifrar el contenido simbólico que encierran. «Todo crimen conlleva un mensaje, la cuestión es conocer el código de quien lo ha escrito», le recuerda un excéntrico sacerdote al comisario.

Quasi una vita, momento per momento, quelli più intensi che nel tempo acquistano ancora più vigore e ritornano in tutta la loro vividezza. Tanti incontri qui offerti nella forma del racconto, ognuno dei quali ha una luce, un'atmosfera e dei personaggi indimenticabili che hanno segnato soprattutto la giovinezza e l'adolescenza di Camilleri. Alcuni conosciuti negli anni più maturi, durante la sua carriera di regista teatrale e televisivo, molti altri sconosciuti, che ci riportano ai tempi del fascismo, della guerra.

Racconto autobiografico e insieme pamphlet politico, La linea della palma è anche un j'accuse sul mondo a cavallo tra vecchio e nuovo Millennio; una lunga conversazione in cui Camilleri, sollecitato dal giornalista Saverio Lodato, mette a nudo la sua esperienza di scrittore e di uomo di spettacolo, ma anche di uomo impegnato politicamente.

Lo zoo personale di Andrea Camilleri è fatto di animali e di storie che entreranno nella nostra vita per sempre. Sono ritratti en plein air: impossibile ascoltarli e vederli senza sentire dentro qualcosa di fortissimo, perché sono pieni di affetto, confondono il confine tra la coscienza umana e quella degli animali e sono sempre a favore di questi ultimi, nel senso di un'armonia della vita solo nel rispetto di tutte le specie viventi.

En esta ocasión el comisario debe investigar el asesinato de un comerciante jubilado, cuya amante, una joven tunecina desaparecida tras el crimen, es objeto de todas las sospechas. Sin embargo, las pesquisas guían a Montalbano hacia el turbio mundo de los servicios secretos y su sucia guerra contra el terrorismo internacional. La razón de Estado se ve sometida a su implacable instinto de justicia, «quijotesco» según uno de los agentes secretos.

Maybe a phrase, a line, a hint somewhere would reveal a reason, any reason, for the elderly couple's disappearance. They'd saved everything.... There was even a copy of the 'certificate of living existence', that nadir of bureaucratic imbecility.... What was the protocol, to use a word dear to government offices? Did one simply write on a sheet of paper something like 'I, the undersigned, Salvo Montalbano, hereby declare myself to be in existence', sign it, and turn it in to the appointed clerk?

1870s, Sicily. Much to the displeasure of Vigàta's stubborn populace, the town has just been unified under the Kingdom of Italy. They're now in the hands of a new government they don't understand and definitely don't like. Eugenio Bortuzzi has been named prefect for Vigàta, a regional representative from the Italian government to oversee the town. But the rowdy and unruly Sicilians don't care much for this rather pompous mainlander nor the mediocre opera he's hell-bent on producing in their new municipal theater.

Things are not going well for Inspector Montalbano. His long-distance relationship with Livia is on the rocks, he feels himself getting even older and he's growing tired of the violence in his job. Then the dead body of a young woman is found in an illegal dump, with half her face missing. Her identity at first is unknown; a tattoo of a sphinx moth on her left shoulder links her with three other girls bearing the same mark, all recent Russian immigrants to Italy.

When an elderly man is stabbed to death in an elevator and a crewman on an Italian fishing trawler is machine gunned by a Tunisian patrol boat off Sicily's coast, only Inspector Montalbano suspects a link between the two incidents. His investigation leads to the beautiful Karima, an impoverished housecleaner and sometime prostitute, whose young son steals other school children's midmorning snacks. But Karima disappears, and the young snack thief's life - as well as Montalbano's - is endangered.

The Terracotta Dog, the second audiobook in Andrea Camilleri's Inspector Montalbano series, opens with a mysterious tête-à-tête with a mafioso, some inexplicably abandoned loot from a supermarket heist and some dying words that lead Inspector Montalbano to a secret grotto in a mountain cave where two young lovers, dead 50 years and still embracing, are watched over by a life-size terracotta dog.

Two deaths - the suicide of a recently fired worker and the murder of an unscrupulous businessman - lead Inspector Montalbano to the Halcyon, a mysterious ship that visits Vigàta's port each day. With very few crewmen, no passengers and a stern large enough to land a helicopter, it piques the Inspector's interest straight away. And whilst all this is going on, a rare trip to Genoa to visit Livia ends with the Vigàta police department in disarray, and Inspector Montalbano's position as the head of the commissariat in jeopardy. It will be up to Montalbano to fix the damage done.

Inspector Montalbano is awake at dawn, sitting on his porch, when his attention is caught by a seagull that falls from the sky, performing a strange dance, before lying down to die.
