Aided by one of the servants' boys, she begins restoring the garden, and eventually discovers some other secrets of the manor.

Little Lord Fauntleroy is the first children's novel written by English playwright and author Frances Hodgson Burnett. It was originally published as a serial in the St. Nicholas Magazine between November 1885 and October 1886, then as a book by Scribner's in 1886.

Attending a school for young ladies, the ever-changing fortunes of Sara Crewe are embellished by her lively imagination. Along the way she invites some wonderfully memorable characters to join her in her fantasies.

First, we learn that Queen Silver-Bell has lost her fairy, Temper, and that Fairyland has begun to melt away. How will it end? Then we hear that Mother Rook has abandoned her nest. A little girl, Winnie, comes to the rescue. What will happen next?

At the heart of each of these great classic stories is an adoptee with an indomitable spirit who becomes the heroine (or hero) of her own life. Mary Lennox, dziewczynka urodzona w Indiach i wychowywana przez hinduską niańkę, jest najmniej sympatycznym dzieckiem, jakie kiedykolwiek widziano. Po śmierci rodziców zamieszkuje w Anglii, w położonym pośród wrzosowisk starym domu swojego wuja - który tak jak jej rodzice, nie widzi powodu, aby osobiście się nią zajmować. Mary jest całkiem sama, aż pewnego dnia kolorowy ptaszek wskazuje jej wejście do tajemniczego ogrodu, który staje się jej królestwem. Wkrótce odkryje też sekret wielkiego domu.
