Le plus célèbre des romans d'Alexandre Dumas, Les Trois Mousquetaires est un roman d'aventure dont l’histoire se passe au XVIIe siècle en France. The story of "The Three Musketeers" continues in "The Man in the Iron Mask" but the plot is even more intricate. D’Artagnan, Athos, Porthos and Aramis return to the scene but this time each of them is fighting for completely different things. D’Artagnan remains in the service of the corrupt King Louis XIV while his "brothers" try to remove him from the throne.

The Count plays a dangerous game, turning his dark arts to the destruction of these powerful men, and even their innocent children are caught up in his byzantine schemes. Will the innocent perish along with the guilty? And what of Edmond Dantes? Will he find redemption, or will he be swept up and destroyed by the very forces he has invoked?

Er baseret på Poul Einer Hansens fine nyoversættelse i et letforståeligt moderne dansk, der bevarer romanens struktur, uden at beskære den for personer eller scener, i en strammere, mere økonomisk fortælleform.
