With a plan to rescue Howie's sister from London, Howie and Dave travel to Salisbury army training barracks to find an armoured personnel carrier that will see them safely through the densely populated and infected towns that lead into the capital.

At Tower Bridge, Howie, Dave, and their group of survivors take stock of the previous day's battle. After an initial confrontation between Howie and the turned Darren, Howie and his group beat a hasty retreat to Fort Spitbank on the south coast, where they prepare for the invasion of Darren and his army of undead.

Darren heads to the Isle of Wight, where he gathers more undead and turns the beautiful Marcy. Howie and his remaining, much smaller team go to rescue the living who have escaped there, but Darren traps them in an abandoned hotel and sends his hordes in after them. Even if they can escape, tides prevent them from leaving the island, and they must face Darren and Marcy in a final showdown.

Howie’s group disembark from the Isle of Wight, but when the ferry they take breaks down they climb aboard a Royal Navy supply vessel at anchor outside Portsmouth Harbour to find a huge horde of undead. We meet Maddox and a group of council estate children who have survived the apocalypse by taking refuge in a cannabis plantation. When a horde of undead attack the children, Howie tries to save them only to find they turn on him. Eventually a truce is called, and an uneasy alliance begins to develop.

Paco Maguire, a major Hollywood actor, is in the UK filming a zombie horror movie. Physically powerful but terrified of everything, he teams up with a German shepherd dog who is immune to the virus. The dog becomes an expert hunter of the undead. A survivor reaches the fort and tells of the dog’s immunity. Howie and his group head to the town where the dog was last seen. A battle ensues.

Chaos overtakes the fort when one of Howie’s group turns and starts killing survivors. Howie and his team are blamed and shunned but carry on their search for fuel to run generators in order to carry out research on the dog. When Marcy realises the infection can cure diseases, and realising she can be strong and good, she decides to head to the fort to hand herself in to be examined, too.

Howie and his group have been lured into a false sense of security by Marcy but are rescued by Dave. Does Marcy escape? Maddox and his crew turn up to join forces with Howie, and we are introduced to Paula, an accountant who was working late when the infection came and was subjected to a horrific sexual assault, against which she fought back. And we follow Roy, an Olympic standard archer and hypochondriac.

Dave finds an unconscious Howie and carries him into the residential streets for safety. The others have been separated and are searching for each other. Nick falls asleep and misses the pick up.

We meet Lilly and Billy, a brother and sister who are led by their ineffectual father into a series of devastating situations which results in Billy being taken by two men and Lilly witnessing the murder of her father. Lilly tracks her brother and meets up with Nick who, not being able to find his group, agrees to help her.

After cutting through fences in the safari park and an epic battle between a gorilla and a lion, Howie and his group make it back to the fort. Day 14 culminates with a vicious battle during a storm so huge it changes the landscape around them, leaving Nick with no choice but to tackle the doctor and his men alone.

It is the morning after the storm. Thick fog covers everything. In the stifling, claustrophobic atmosphere, Howie and his group head out for supplies. Skirmishes and tense fights take place and there are messages left in blood at key sites: 'he's coming'. As the day progresses, Howie becomes increasingly darker in thought, and more demanding of his team. By the end of the day they have discovered a munitions factory, but can Howie hold it together?

Howie and Marcy fight their way back into the fort to rescue Lani, only to find her on a killing spree. Her body made weak by the incessant and relentless purge of the Undead, and believing Howie has betrayed her with Marcy, she now seeks to destroy him and all he loves. With tensions running high, Maddox and his crews watch on while Howie tries to reason with the woman he thought he loved. She leads him to the armoury, where they are together and alone. She holds a grenade in her hand, ready to detonate.

After the carnage of the night and dealing with an infected Lani, the team leave the fort and once more venture into rural towns to find food and buy time. As the day wears on, the tension between Howie and Marcy grows, with increasingly petty arguments that sap the morale of the others. They find a deserted village where the infection strikes in vast numbers. With too many to fight head-on, the lads flee and take refuge in an old mansion.
