About this listen
A sticky end to a hit murder mystery triology.
Best friends and sometime lovers Edward "Mitch" Mitchell and Harry "Boy" Morgan have been in terrible jams before - their adventures of murder, mystery, and unstoppable sex have made The Back Passage and The Secret Tunnel international best sellers.
In A Sticky End, Mitch must face the possibility that his chum is involved in the chain of events that led to the suicide of Boy's own colleague and secret paramour, Frank Bartlett. To absolve Boy, Mitch races around London finding clues while bedding the many men eager to lend a hand-or more. As Mitch says himself, "Holmes has his fiddle, Poirot has his liqueurs - I have cock. We all have our methods."
The policemen, working class gigolos, steam-room bathers, embezzlers and blackmailers that Mitch comes across create a tasty mystery and satisfying erotic romp.

When his mother became President, Alex Claremont-Diaz was promptly cast as the American equivalent of a young royal. Handsome, charismatic, genius—his image is pure millennial-marketing gold for the White House. There's only one problem: Alex has a beef with the actual prince, Henry, across the pond. And when the tabloids get hold of a photo involving an Alex-Henry altercation, U.S./British relations take a turn for the worse.

You think you know me. That's the way I want it. Making you feel like we know each other - like we could go grab a beer sometime - is part of my job. Maybe the most vital part. It doesn't hurt that I'm easy on the eyes, single at 35, and born richer than sin. My aesthetic matters much more than it should, but all the better for my worthy cause. And it's a worthy cause. I've made an art out of making you feel good, and my influence makes you want to be good. Good like me. You think you know me, but you don't. Everyone has secrets. Mine could cost me everything.

Cyril Avery is not a real Avery - or at least that's what his adoptive parents tell him. And he never will be. But if he isn't a real Avery, then who is he? Born out of wedlock to a teenage girl cast out from her rural Irish community and adopted by a well-to-do if eccentric Dublin couple via the intervention of a hunchbacked Redemptorist nun, Cyril is adrift in the world, anchored only tenuously by his heartfelt friendship with the infinitely more glamourous and dangerous Julian Woodbead.

Story
England in 1963 is a country set to explode. The old guard, shocked by the habits of the war-baby youth - sex, drugs, and rock and roll - sets out to fight back. The battle moves uncomfortably close to Chief Inspector Troy. While Troy is on medical leave for a nasty case of tuberculosis, the Yard brings charges against an acquaintance of his, a hedonistic doctor with a penchant for voyeurism and uninhibited young women.

Would you recommend this audiobook to a friend? If so, why?
While this isn't a major piece of literary fiction, it is a fun read. Enough plot to make it entertaining, and enough eroticism to make it spicy. A gay version of a bodice ripper.Just for fun...

Any additional comments?
Good grief! This story definitely took place prior to the AIDS epidemic! I mean, the amount of sex our dear Mitch has through out the bit of investigating he was suppose to be doing to help, his friend was eye boggling ridiculous! Yet I honestly liked the story. The mystery of 'who dunnit?' was intriguing and a bit sad when figured out but extremely entertaining.I felt bad for Mitch somewhat because it's always hard to not feel as important in someone's world as they are to your world. And the ending with Vince was beautifully sad. My heart broke for Vince but I'm glad there was so much love and hope between Mitch and Vince. That part of the story was my absolute favorite.
Some might be annoyed that Mitch is American but the narration was done in a British accent. But, I'm completely smitten with Daniel Carter's voice, I couldn't care less which is crazy because if the opposite happened I'd be upset. I'm just a sucker for that sexy young British accent. ❤️
😍 Daniel Carter 😍
Something went wrong. Please try again in a few minutes.
As usual, Mitchell finds his way around - and finds his solution - by way of bedding nearly every man he comes in contact with, and finally - maybe way too soon for the reader who doesn't want this story to end - he finds that solution. But what of the title? I leave that to the reader to discern.
I've not fanned out into the other James Lear novels yet - he's a quite prolific author - and those are next. I want to see how he does with contemporary mystery, and with bawdy historical "costume drama" novels. Meanwhile, I also want to know who I can call at his publisher who might have a little pull with the author, to give us maybe one more of the Mitch Mitchell books. This one was a thorough delight.
I Hope This Isn't REALLY The Sticky End for Mitch!
