About this listen

The fabled desert kingdom of Zulheina was Tariq’s birthright, and he was a man who held tightly to what belonged to him. And that meant he had to reclaim a very special woman - the woman who had broken his heart years before in New Zealand. And once he had lured her to this distant land, he meant to keep his new bride here forever.

But Jasmine Coleridge was not as easily tamed as he had imagined. Her beguiling blend of untouched innocence and dazzling sensuality threatened, once again, to bring the haughty sheikh to his knees - and made him wonder who was the true prisoner.

Shame about the Narrator

I love Nalini and this is another lovely story. Not a mind bender but just a good read that leaves you with happy feely feelings at the end.

But the narrator, Layla Ives nearly ruined it for me by giving the Kiwi lead and Australian accent. All she had to do was speak unaccented english and she would have hit the nail on the head. It was comparable to a Canadian lead with a South Carolina drawl...YUK..

And a bit of middle eastern name learning wouldn't have gone astray either.

Strangely intriguing...

I am not sure if I hate this book or I like it-- maybe it needs a second read. Its obviously an early work by Singh, as her style is much more immature and does not have as much depth of character as her Psy/changling books. But the overall plot and characters somehow still fascinated me-- i am not sure why! The hurried chapter 1 "wham bam" arranged marriage was weird, and kinda creepy, but after that it was like they were dating! They interacted like they just met-- although they supposedly had been close years before. I have listened to much worse and this never made me want to chuck my iphone across the room, so i am giving it 3 stars-- that three is probably on the low end of 3.

Wonderful Audible Read!

Where does Desert Warrior rank among all the audiobooks you’ve listened to so far?

The story itself is not as great as other audible books I love. But the bit of music and the fabulous narration by Layla Ives made it come to life! Layla's use of accents and inflections were wonderful and made the story rush by with the excitement of sitting in a movie theater.Really Great.

Who was your favorite character and why?

Jasmine. Her growth throughout the story and her strength.

Which character – as performed by Layla Ives – was your favorite?

Tariq.

Was this a book you wanted to listen to all in one sitting?

Absolutely.

Any additional comments?

Again, I loved the job Layla Ives did. Her use of accents in acting out the book kept me glued to it. In some audible books it takes a second to figure out who is saying what because narrator is simple reading it in a monotone voice. But I was always certain of plot and who was speaking by Layla's beautiful and varied accents. I actually looked for her name as narrator with any other books to buy because this was so delightful. My enjoyment of this book was mostly due to the excellent narration! I loved it.

LIKED IT!

This was a very enjoyable story. I felt I could have brain slapped our hero a time or ten, but it was all worth it to get to such a wonderful Happily Ever After!

Classic Nalini Singh romance...

Would you say that listening to this book was time well-spent? Why or why not?

I love Nalini Singh so it was very nice to listen to her first book. This story is classic fairytale romance with some twists and turns.

Would you be willing to try another book from Nalini Singh? Why or why not?

I have listed to most of the Psy/Changelling series by Nalini Singh, narrated by Angela Dawe and I love it. I highly recommend the first book of the series: Slave to Sensation. Super hot!

What three words best describe Layla Ives’s voice?

Pleasant, strong accent (Australian?)

Could you see Desert Warrior being made into a movie or a TV series? Who should the stars be?

This would be a perfect Lifetime channel movie... Predictable but nice.

Any additional comments?

I enjoyed this book and the descriptions of the Arabic country...

Intense!

This was an enjoyable Audiobook to listen too. The narrator was really good and the story was hot. Tariq was very possessive of Jasmine. Despite her leaving him 4 years prior, he claimed her immediately when she stepped back into his life. He didn’t trust her, but he wasn’t going to live without her either.

Jasmine was only 18 when she choose her family over him. She was young, naive and has low self worth due to her families treatment. She really had to prove herself to Tariq. He made her work for his heart again while he tried to own her. I really enjoyed their story.

Heartbreak and the struggle to reclaim love

I must say that the fact that the man was forgiven his hurtful attacks twice without groveling is disappointing. I'm sorry and I love you are two phrases men are often incapable of speaking with sincerity. But the romance is realistic in that aspect because the woman takes the blame, suffers the hurt, makes the effort, and gives everything. The man is exalted for saying I love you finally. ugh.

Great One Nalini

I really enjoyed this one from Nalini Singh. While it is not in her normal writing style, she does a great job with it. An interesting begining and while most romance readers can guess the ending, it's the trip you take to get there that makes it worth listening to.
