About this listen

Senator Beau Beckett refuses to lay low because of a few death threats on postcards. His new bodyguard isn't going to convince him otherwise. At least not until the threat becomes real and his four-year-old daughter's safety is jeopardized. He has no choice but to work with his cocky and sexy Agent Wolfe to stay alive.

Federal Security Protection agent Judd Wolfe doesn't play by the rules. His out-of-the-box way of getting things done lands him a babysitting job. But being Senator Beckett's bodyguard while staying out of his bed becomes his biggest challenge as passion ignites between the men.

Didn't engage me; too much plot, but well narrated

2.5 stars for story, 4 for narration. For such a short story, there was too much plot that eclipsed character and romantic development. Without enough build up, BAM! ... the main characters were in love and most of the story was trying to figure out who was stalking the senator. I wasn't feeling the love and couldn't connect to the characters.

However, the narration was good and kept me listening, even if I wasn't really engaged. If you're looking for something really short and heavy on plot, then you might like this one.

A Quick Little Romance...

I liked this story...it was quick, concise, and to the point. The story involved intrigue, mystery, sex, and love. Wolfe and Beckett initially seem completely opposite, but one can feel the tension building as the story progresses. Enjoyable premise and quick to listen to...

A little to quick and shallow, esp. with a child.

Would you listen to His Guarded Heart again? Why?

No, I'd not want to listed to it again. I'd rather read the book to create my own character voices and intonations.

How would you have changed the story to make it more enjoyable?

It wasn't NOT enjoyable. However, I feel that the story lacked a depth of development and emotion that would be needed, especially while portraying Beau to be a protective single parent.

What does Michael Ferraiuolo bring to the story that you wouldn’t experience if you just read the book?

Michael Ferrauiolo's character voices were fun (and funny). He has a very pleasant speaking voice and was easy to listen to.

Was this a book you wanted to listen to all in one sitting?

I probably would have and could have listened to it in one sitting had I not started it at 3:00 a.m..

Any additional comments?

Strong characters. Although they knew of each other in a professional capacity, they should have taken more time on a personal and intimate front, especially when there's a young child to care for. Short novella, quick pace, not very dimensionally or emotionally deep. Swift forward progress to an abrupt ending. Virtually no predictability. Overall, not bad but I'd still like to read the book to compare my reactions.

great performance as always

Didn't like the story.
The loves scenes were hot.
Michael Ferraiuolo is awesome as always. I finished the book only because of him.

A great quick story.

Michael Ferraiuolo is one of my favorite audiobook performers, and I love short books that I can listen to when I don't have a lot of time to spend on a longer one, so this was a win, win for me. It also didn't hurt that this was a bodyguard story. 😊

Not a lot more for me to say except this was a great book to listen to. It has a single dad, a hot body guard and a decent plot. The author manages to convey a compelling story in a short amount of time and I loved it.

[begin rant] I wrote my short review (above) before I looked at any other reviews. It never fails to perplex me why reviewers ding a story for being too short when it is obvious from the length of the audiobook that it will be so. If you don't like shorter length audios or books why pick them up? I don't feel that it's fair to judge a short story by the same standards that I would a much longer book so I refuse to knock off points just because a story is short. [end of rant]

Insta-love quickie.

Sometimes a little quickie is just what the doctor ordered, and this was definitely a quickie! I actually think this would have been a great story, if it was just a little bit longer. It almost had a second chance feel to it, since Judd and Beau had a bit of history. I think if that part have been developed more it would have helped make them falling for each so quickly more believable.
And with it being such a short story, the resolution with the stalker wrapped up pretty fast.
Overall, it wasn't a bad couple of hours, this is just one of those stories that I would have appreciate more if there was just more "meat" to it.
Michael Ferraiuolo is a great narrator, although his little girl voice could use some work! :)

Good, but way too short😌

It's a good story but with some development could have been great. Don't get me wrong, I at times like a good short story when I have just a little time. This was great for that purpose. But it a little too good for just a short story. I would have loved to have seen more of Judd with Angel. Dan the proclaimed best friend didn't show any friendliness at all, there wasn't time to develop secondary characters. But a good short story just the same.

Good book

Good, quick read full of emotion. It is a little short, but a full story and has a HEA.

Short, but it still dragged.

It was ok for a novella. There was really no time to develop the characters. It was like listening to the overview of a story. I skipped over the smexy time because I need to be vested in the couple first.
