About this listen

Regan: I never really knew what misery was until the day I was kidnapped and sold for being in the wrong place at the wrong time. Two months later I'm at a brothel in Rio when I meet Daniel Hays. He says he's here to save me, but can I trust him? He's the only safe thing in my world, and I know it's wrong to fall in love with him, but I can't seem to help myself.

Daniel: For the last 18 months, one goal has dictated every action I've taken. I've left the army, turned paid hit man, and befriended criminals all across the globe to find my kidnapped sister. In every brothel I raid and every human trafficking truck I stop, I hope the next face I find is my sister's. In a hidden brothel in Rio, I find Regan Porter.

I should leave her behind or send her home because the last thing either of us needs right now is to get involved. But with every passing minute, I find I'm less able to let her go.

Contains mature themes.

I CLUNG ON TO EVERY WORD.... & HELD MY BREATH TOO

Right from the start the hard hitting storyline grips you as the story picks up from book 1 after Reagan had been kidnapped, repeatedly raped, kidnapped again and then sold and is now in a dark basement chained up, treated like an animal and 'servicing' men. But her spirit isn't broken as she recites Zombie Movies in her head whilst things are being done to her body and somehow it's often her they are afraid of. But then one day in walks an American who has bought her for a little while and is taking her out, out to daylight and out of her Hell hole. She doesn't know if this is finally the end for her..... but she plans. Daniel has actually come to save her, and his Sister, he's gone through 18 months searching, rescuing and killing and he doesn't intend to stop until they are all back home free...... but fate has a different plan for them all.

This is an intense journey and your emotions go from euphoria to despair in a heartbeat and then laughter to tears in the next as these two damaged people find romance and love amongst the backdrop of chaos, murder, gangs, the Russian Bratva, bloodshed and destruction which somehow makes their bond unbreakable.

Writing a Review for a book you loved is so easy because Reagan and Daniel's story was all kinds of terrible, all kinds of shocking and all kinds of wonderful too. It was so well written you could picture each thrilling, chilling or romantic and tender scene and each and every character that made up this brilliant listen. The narrators did a great job with the many voices and emotions called for and it was a dual POV listen that had plenty of romance, sex, dirty talking and loving in amongst the violence.

Worth a credit? When you're in the mood for a more hard hitting love story then they don't come much better than this series dedicated to men who have somehow lost their way in life and have become, for whatever reason, Hit Men but are saved by love. Very creditworthy, the next book is already downloaded for when I next need a hit.

Brutal Love Story .... full of twists!!

Would you consider the audio edition of Last Breath to be better than the print version?

I did not read the print version. I did enjoy the audio. This is a brutal love story. The characters experience so many negative (for lack of a better term) and brutal situations .... it's a wonder they are able to stay strong.

What was one of the most memorable moments of Last Breath?

The scene outside of the American Embassy.

Have you listened to any of Iggy Toma and Kasha Kensington ’s other performances before? How does this one compare?

I don't think so ... but I did like the performance in this story.

If you were to make a film of this book, what would the tag line be?

I would not make a movie about this book.

Any additional comments?

If you like angst ridden love stories this is the book for you. The heroine experiences so many brutal situations .... and still manages to dig deep down and stay strong in spite of everything. In the first book (which I recommend reading first) she did not seem to have the fortitude that she has in this book. I am looking forward to listening to book 3 when I finish this review. Worth a credit or a sale.

Hot Russian Love

Wow! This book- this series- is intense and I'm addicted to the series. There are sweet and tender moments, suspenseful scenes and heroes (a bit anti-hero-ish) that are more endearing than you can imagine. Plus the dual POV narrators do perfect Russian accents, giving a stellar performance.

Never in a million years did I think I’d like this

“The dark edges of the world I now inhabit are seeping into my skin like an oil slick covering an ocean.”
I like thrillers and gritty action stories, and can handle sexual abuse of women as a plot device in those, but adding romance to the mix? Yeah, I never thought I’d find one book that could feed both my romance and thriller loving soul.

“An invisible string spools between us.”
The romance was touching, and compassionate, and still sexy. Even though, in real life, I don’t buy a woman being able to fall in love (much less enjoy sex) within days of being freed from trafficking, this story was remarkably written to allow me to suspend disbelief and enjoy.

“Every gang needs at least one Russian and one hellcat.”
It helped that the dark was balanced with humor, and that Regan’s spirit was indomitable.
You could even skip chapter 1, which gets you past most of the ugly, traumatic parts.
But in my stories, I go for the roller coaster over the merry go round.
This is one story that got ahold of my heart, big time.

It surprised me

This book is quite a landmine for trigger warnings, and I knew it was going to be quite a heavy listen. Or really something I don't normally read. But after Last Hit, I really wanted to know what happened to Regan.

And I was surprised by how much I liked it given the subject material. I truly do think that Daniel and Regan were the reason this book worked for me. If it had been Daisy and Nick, I think I would have hated it. The banter was the highlight for me. And I truly appreciate that Daniel encouraged Regan, even when she didn't believe in herself. The book was really great.

I’m in love with Daniel

Omg! Daniel is everything!
Alpha, patient protector to a traumatized Reagan and hot as hades but also a badass killer on a mission to find his kidnapped autistic sister. And Reagan is as brave as she is traumatized by cruel sex slave traders. My heart melted over and over during the sex scenes where Reagan wasn’t sure she could ever have sex again, Daniel was so patient, kind and thoughtful with her and the way he loves her with such sweetness and tries to make her laugh and can recognize when she’s feeling uncomfortable all while dodging bad guys and bullets makes Daniel every woman’s fantasy. This story definitely deals with dark subject matter but Daniel isn’t an alpha that treats women like garbage, he is the knight in tattered armor who finds the love of his life while saving abused women. This is a MUST READ!
