About this listen

Newly divorced and determined to reclaim her life, Leslie Morgan, best-selling author of Crazy Love and Mommy Wars, decided to spend a year searching for five new lovers in this “highly stimulating story of a midlife education” and “steamy, liberating tale of self-exploration and self-love” (Kirkus Reviews).

When Leslie Morgan divorced after a 20-year marriage, both her self-esteem and romantic optimism were shattered. She was determined to avoid the cliché of the “lonely, middle-aged divorcée” lamenting her stretch marks and begging her kids to craft her online dating profile. Instead, Leslie celebrated her independence with an audacious plan: She would devote a year to seeking out five lovers in hopes of unearthing the erotic adventures and authentic connections long missing from her life. Clumsy and clueless at first, she overcame mortifying early missteps, buoyed by friends and blind faith. And so she found men at yoga class, the airport, and high school reunions - all without the torture of dating websites. Along the way she uncovered new truths about sex, aging, men, self-confidence, and what it means to be a woman over 50 today.

Packed with fearless, evocative details, The Naked Truth is a rare, unexpected, and wildly entertaining memoir about a soccer mom who rediscovers the magic of sexual and emotional connection and the lasting gifts of reveling in your femininity at every age.

A Memoir full of “Realness” & Reinvention post divorce

This book is different from the author’s other work because it is about the grief and transformation necessary after divorce. Divorce is a huge loss, and the author describes an apparently loveless marriage despite its material comforts. When you go through a divorce, you find yourself in situations and with needs you never thought you would have. And yes, that reinvention also can mean dating, sexual exploration and transformation as well. Readers may only understand this book if they’ve had a similar loss. I appreciated the book’s realness about the thrilling and terrifying experience of reinvention as a newly single woman post divorce. I found it to be a great, affirming listen.

Gives me hope!!

A wonderful book that has given me new hope! In many ways, Leslie’s story sounded like mine. The big difference is my marriage ended after 40 years. Her words sound like mine input journeys learning to live and love fully input newly found selves. I’d like to know how and where she finds herself in 5 years.

Loved this book

I loved this book. I loved her insights and the things she said about her 2nd husband and their relationship. I could relate to many things she spoke about. I agree with so much about what she talks about. I wish I could meet her and be her friend. I hope she finds or has found the love of her life!

If you believe misery loves company

For the briefest moment at the beginning, this sounded like a fun memoir of a woman coming into her own at midlife -- unfortunately, it became the memoir of a woman who clearly needs more therapy. I really wish her friend Casey would write something; at least she sounds interesting and grounded. Ultimately this was lackluster writing about a juvenile theme. If you'd like all the sad drama you remember from high school transported to middle age, this is the book for you! If you were up for story of a sexually empowered woman, keep looking.
