About this listen

Emily arrives at Westbury Hall with a job to do. She's to clean and conserve all of the books in the impressive library, preserving them for future generations. Not long into her stay at the house, she bumps into the night guard, George. She'd expected an old balding guy with a comb-over, so the hunky chap she actually meets is a very pleasant surprise.

The introductions complete, George leaves Emily in peace to get on with her job. But when a falling photograph sets off a chain reaction of ghostly events, Emily and George are thrown together in order to find out who - or what - is causing them. Their investigation uncovers a tragic past, a lost love, and a stunning secret.

Please note: This is a revised and extended version of a previously published title, Love Through Time.

Louisa does a lovely job narrating this revised version of Love Through Time.

Not her Best

This story had an interesting premise that didn’t turn out the way I expected. Far too long of a setup and very little payoff. Ending was rushed and abrupt. Very little steam. Skip this one, she’s written much better.

A Haunted Library Love Story!

A Haunted Library Love Story!

This is a short standalone title at a little over an hour and a half. It’s sweet, a bit heart wrenching, with a little bit of steam thrown in.

There is a note with this title that states its a revised and extended version of a previously published title, Love Through Time.

♥ Story ♥
Emily Stone is a book conservator called to Westbury Manor to help organize and preserve their large library. Shortly after she arrives she meets their conveniently hot and sexy night guard George. Because that happens all the time, right?

Then before you know it, there is pictures being knocked over and a secret haunting comes to light. Apparently that wasn’t disclosed in the job description. This sets our two characters up to work in tight quarters while they try to unravel the mystery of why the things go bump in the night.

We all know what that leads too!

The story they uncover will break your heart a little. I for one could of used just a little more closure on it, but not for sure what more she could of wrote.

This is a light story with a little bit of steam at the end. A great read/listen for when you need a brain break from some of the harsher ones.

♥ Author ♥
I’ve listened and rated/reviewed several other Lucy Felthouse tales and this one did not disappoint. I find that even though many of her title are listed as “Erotica” they can often be quite tame. They make for a pleasant in between read when you need a palate cleanser. She writes great stories, long or short, with intriguing characters and plots.

♥ Narrator(s) ♥
This is my first listen to Louisa Middleton and the only title listed on her Audible page. That does not mean that she has not narrated anything else, exactly. Many Narrators use different names for different genres. I do not know if this is the case for Louisa Middleton.

She did a good job with this title and her accent is quite cute. It works for a shy librarian type. Her male voice did not lack as he came off fairly dreamy.

The production quality needed a boost in speed. At least on my audible player. An increase of 1 to 2 ticks is all that is needed and it fixed it right up.

Pleasant but rather dull

I found this short (1.5-hour) audiobook to be pleasant but underwhelming. I have listened to and really enjoyed a few other Lucy Felthouse audiobooks, specifically “Desert Heat”, “Native Tongue”, and “Love on Location”. However, this short story is dull and unsatisfying by comparison. In addition, the solo narrator did a couple of things that added to the problem.

The setting and characters were interesting and likable. However, the ending was so abrupt that I couldn’t be certain that Emily and George were “happy for now”, much less happily ever after. One of the last sentences was so ambiguous that I couldn’t be even be sure that Emily and George ever had another date. If this short story were a few minutes longer and ended more romantically, then I would have rated this audiobook 4 stars instead of 3. Also, I was disappointed that the story had the most boring ghost-related plot that I have ever encountered (and I have read a lot of ghost-related fiction). This short story did have some good steaminess and sexual tension.

The solo narrator Louisa Middleton generally did a good job, but I think that she could have done a couple of things better. Her authentic English accent is quite charming, but she always talked slowly, which negatively affected the pacing and tension. Her male voice for George was good, sexy, and believable. Her female voice was pleasant, breathy, and flirty. However, the slowness of her speech sometimes incorrectly conveyed a sleepy quality to the character’s voices.

short steamy listen

A short romance that's well written and narrated. An escape from reality and into the lives of two characters who have instant chemistry. A great balance of sweet and steamy. An overall enjoyable read!

Short romance with a paranormal bend

Emily was hired to help organize a library and in doing so, she finds that the library is haunted. The security guard, George, and she went to find out why the ghost is haunting the library. So this was a fun story with a mystery in a paranormal setting, along with a bit of romance and steam towards the end. Short and sweet, this was a fun listen.

Louisa Middleton had a really really slow voice- I had to put it to 2x in order for it to sound natural to me (it may be the New Yorker in me!). Sped up, she does a good job telling her story, with good cadence. Her male voice wasn’t extremely differentiated from the female voice so I sometimes wasn’t sure who was “speaking”.
