A well written Anti-hero MC

If you enjoy old-school Conan the Barbarian-esque Sword and Sorcery and the brutal indifference to boot then this story is for you. This story was a pleasant surprise, and I'm looking forward to the next book.

A great first story by a great author.

This is the first published story from Brent Tyman and he did a great job. Excellent fight scenes, "love" scenes, and a plot that moves at a good pace. Ordan, the MC, develops throughout the story and becomes realistic and likeable. His "friends" bring more to the story than just fun and develop themselves, Ordan, and the world around them. The story is well written and edited. I look forward to reading all of Brent's stories! Audio Version: Maeve York does a fantastic job as always. She brings the story and each character to life.

At least you got the steamy parts right

The story is simple has everything sloves it self in a single book lay setting fir book 2. It was neither good nor bad story just above average in everything.

A good start.

I really enjoyed Tyman's other work Growth Hero and while I do like that one more this book was still good. The author did a good job with both the characters and the world building and I am looking forward to book 2. The narration was great too Maeve York did a great job and can't wait for more.

Rough start, gets as it progresses

I picked this up as a blind buy since I've enjoyed Brent's growth hero series so much. Let me start out by saying this is the first audiobook I've picked up with Maeve narrating and wow is she awesome! Great range of voices, accents, the works! I'd love to see her get more work in the genre going forward.

I'm not sure what Brent was shooting for with this one. Its dark, that's for sure. This is one of those books that throws you right into the deep end and then builds the backstory as the story progresses. On the downside I think the book falls a little short on humanizing the MC before the end of the book. There is an inkling of character growth leading into the final phase of the story however not enough to leave you feeling like MC is a "good guy" and more like he's a villain in a world full of similar type people.

Overall by the time the first book finishes the jury is still out. I'll need to see what the second book brings to the table and if the character building progresses to the point that we feel invested.

An excellent start!!

Although not into the whole slavery bit, the characters were none the less rich in character and even understandable given their circumstances. Love the whole bad ass, fully in control MC as well!!
