People can be so unrealistic!!
Reviewed: 03-04-24
I almost didn't purchase this book because of all the extremely negative reviews about the narration. People commented over and over again about how annoying some of the characters' voices were, but they were realistic to me. Were they high pitched and annoying, sure, but the narrator In my opinion, got the teenage girls' voices just right! Of course they were shrill and annoying, That's exactly what teenage girls have sounded like for centuries!
I'm glad I bought this book and I'm about to start Book 3. The second book was equally well crafted. Thank you Ms. Quinn for your commitment to incorporating language true to the time periods and cultures s you write about!! I can easily recommend this series and all of the other books I've listened to by this author.

Don't trust the bad reviews!

This may well be a book you love!!! I'm not sure the people who reviewed it badly gave it enough of a chance to develop. I thought it was well written. I've listened to over 300 books on Audible and this was in the top quadrant. The plot was clever and the characters were well developed at an intriguing pace. You slowly learned enough about each character's back story so that you felt a little more in love with them chapter by chapter. Even the protagonist is likeable! The heroine is genuinely admirable. Definitely an easy light hearted read or listen, but worth your time imo.

One of several hundred books I've read this year..

... and I RARELY leave reviews, but this one is special! Not because the author blows me away with the range of her mastery of the English vocabulary, but rather because of her deep understanding and insight into human emotion. This book speaks to all of the deeply seated attitudes we form toward relationships and marriage. It forced me to examine why my own marriage of 20 years is so ridiculously happy. What are we doing right? What could be even better? Why do people become so unhappy when the 'new' wears off. Why am I not??!
I think this book is a powerful examination of the human condition and how there's really no 'right' formula for happiness. The most important consideration is whether or not you're being true to yourself and honoring your own deepest needs. I strongly recommend this book to just about everyone in a relationship, good or bad. I think there's truth here for every human.
PLUS, I wish I could give the performance 5+ stars. Julia W is the perfect fit for TJRs novels. Her voice is perfection.

Juliette finally has it all. Great friends. An exciting new job that sends her to exotic locations all over the world. Best of all, she has a good, decent man who loves her, who wants to spend the rest of his life with her.... He just won’t admit it. But Juliette’s not worried. They can weather any storm - even this break-up they’re going through now. Nate thought things had been moving too fast, getting too intense. All he needed was some space, though. Now that six months have passed since that awful night, it’s time for Juliette to put her plan into action.

ABSOLUTELY TERRIBLE ENDING!!!

Don't waste a credit or hours of your time waiting for the villian in this book to finally get what's coming to her. It's really the only thing that kept me listening, long past descriptions of nonsensical threats of "I'm going to report this 30-year old crime, of which I have NO proof, to the police!!" I'm so mad. I hope I can still get my money back. Huge disappointment and poor recommendation on Audible's part.

Augustus Everett is an acclaimed author of literary fiction. January Andrews writes best-selling romance. When she pens a happily ever after, he kills off his entire cast. They’re polar opposites. In fact, the only thing they have in common is that for the next three months, they're living in neighboring beach houses, broke, and bogged down with writer's block.

I started with The People You Meet on Vacation, and enjoyed that book immensely, but I liked this one even more!!! Maybe I could relate better to the characters or maybe the relationship suspense was better constructed. Either way, both books were easy and enjoyable, with witty dialogue!! Both are well worth the credits!! Julia Whelan is perhaps my favorite narrator yet.

I almost never review. I'm too busy and it feels like most reviews say the same things. I started reading an actual copy of this book at the ball park, between innings, watching my husband play softball. I knew pretty immediately that I would buy it on Audible. The dialogue is witty and the characters are charming. The story has some interesting twists and turns, but you anticipate and are rewarded with a happy ending! Strongly recommend if you need something that you don't have to sit and concentrate on to follow. Sometimes I'm in the mood for that, but this was a nice hiatus from that type of book.

...but this one deserved my attention. I tried to hang in there, waiting for the characters to get less annoying, but they're just. So. Shallow. I bet it gets better but I didn't make it. The narrator also sounds like a teenager and her hyper-chipper voice is grating on my nerves simply in remembrance. Ugh. I need slightly more complexity than this offered. The other book I listened to by this author was very good. Not a fan of this one...

After listening to probably 100 audiobooks in the past year, this is my first review. Interesting and fast-paced storyline with relentless plot twists! I enjoyed the novel very much, but agreed with other reviews about the American accents. Far too broad a departure from the first 2 in the series (narrated by Rosalyn Landor). I had to grit my teeth every time Lilian or Daisy spoke!!!
