Ms. Rosett is one of my favorites. The narrator has the perfect vibe for the times, very clear and easy listening. I love this whole series. The story is always well filled out. The characters are easily defined and destinguishable from one another. She creates a picture in my head without spending too much time telling me what it all looks like. Her books continue to be a fun way to spend an evening.

Just the right amount of intrigue, comedy, and banter. Great story, great listening. A breath of fresh air. It kept me guessing, and ready to know more. The chemistry of the main characters were perfect. This is one of the better books I've read in a while.

I loved her other books, but this felt like Moning wrote a book, chopped it up in random places, and this is the first block. The cliffhanger came after an incredible amount of repetitive inner monologue that brought us nowhere and bloated descriptions that still didn't help me "see" what she was talking about. I really don't care exactly what the baseboard and trim look like. It's she trying to compete with Anne Rice for descriptive wording? Without the filler, this book would have been half the size and we would still have the same amount of info. I will give it to her, Moning knows how to create a great story. The plot, the magic, the whole mystery of it all is very interesting. However, in her previous books she gave us an actual story in each installment that still felt like you read a whole book while excitedly awaiting the next one. This book literally answered none of the questions that Zo kept asking herself over and over. There was not one single peice of closure. It was a struggle to keep listening because for every interesting tid bit you would get four pages of blah blah blah. Then it ended abruptly just as it was getting traction. And of course, the ending had her being swept away by another man a la ACOTAR. Except in this book she didn't give us any material to build a relationship with any of the characters so we don't really care who it is. It's a toss up if I read the next one. Maybe, if I'm between books and bored.

I really enjoyed the story and narrator. There was mystery and intrigue along with good banter. No romance, just a friendly comraderie between the MFC and her male sidekick. I was interested from start to finish.

Independent woman and strong burly man
Reviewed: 11-20-24
I love a good accent and the ones in this book seemed okay to me. The story held up with a good mystery. There were points where I couldn't remember the numerous external characters, but nothing that mattered in the end. The MC is a wildly independent woman in a time when that is still frowned upon by many but more openly accepted than before. She brings up past exploits quite often that is meant to point out how 'etraoardinary' she is compared to her fellow women of the time but it's never stated so blatantly. The stories are amusing, though. There is a notable absence of emotion for someone who's dear sister is missing and possibly dead. At some points it seems like she's having such a good time solving the spider web of a mystery that we forget her beloved sister is the focal point of it all. The main male character doesn't get enough personality shown, he's more the strong, silent type. They work well together while arguing the whole way. This is only the first in the series so I'm sure we will learn more about him as the saga continues. These a few of the problems I've noticed but it was put together well, fun to 'solve', and the narrators were very good. I did enjoy the book and I will read the next one.

The story is good. The narrator has a relaxing voice but not enough to put you to sleep. The characters are slightly One dimensional but they have enough personalty to carry through. I will say, when there is a difference of opinion between the the MFC and MMC there is little discussion. In most books, the back and forth between the man and woman is where we get to see their true nature and build some tension. Wolf and Tabitha are almost too agreeable in a way. In all, I enjoyed it but it wasn't a book that i struggled to pause when needed.

She said yes to Morelli. She said yes to Ranger. Now Stephanie Plum has two fiancés and no idea what to do about it. But the way things are going, she might not live long enough to marry anyone. While Stephanie stalls for time, she buries herself in her work as a bounty hunter, tracking down an unusually varied assortment of fugitives from justice. There’s Eugene Fleck, a seemingly sweet online influencer who might also be YouTube star Robin Hoodie, masked hero to the homeless, who hijacks delivery trucks and distributes their contents to the needy.

I have read every book, all of them! I couldn't makes myself finish this. Absolute hot garbage. Stephanie got engaged, and then proceeded to sleep with, two men within days. She might be knocked up and doesn't know who the baby daddy is. She strings both guys along until she can figure it all out while using them both the entire time. At this point, the main character disgusts me. I can't believe Janet took our beloved Stephanie who was brave and independent and caring and smart just to turn her into a guest on the jerry springer show. I should have seen this coming, as Steph has had a good ho phase going for the past however many books but come on! I was holding on to this Fandom by a string and she just sliced right through it. I don't even care who she chooses in the end. Both men should have more self respect for their selves than to grovel for Ms. Plums attention any longer. She doesn't deserve Ranger or Morrelli. What she needs is some counseling and good kick in the rear.

Couldn't make it through
Reviewed: 07-07-24
I actually bought this twice with credits and couldn't make it through either time. The narrator was okay besides the whispering men voices and mispronouncing words that should have have been in a u.s. southern accent and was spoken in a Canadian accent. The story is where I ran into the biggest problem. I can empathize with having to raise a brother and having a hard time letting him make mistakes by himself. However!! This young MAN, not boy, is so immature it almost borders on mentally challenged. I just couldn't understand how anyone could do everything he did and still feel any ounce of sympathy for him. He's watching his sister stress and worry and go into so much debt to try and save him and still continues to do dumb crap. I got to the part where he (finally) gets a job but by then we saw from his point of view and I was completely lost as a reader. And his sister just continuing to slowly bury herself until she's dead to save him from even a tiny amount of self- inflicted hardship made me lose any sympathy I had for her as well. I'm sure they find some money and their parents come back and he learns a lesson but, gosh, I couldn't listen anymore to find out! I'm usually not this harsh, it just frustrated me so much.

Okay for light reading, but it's no Evanovich
Reviewed: 10-24-23
I made it through the whole book with only a couple light laughs. The narrator is good but sounds too old for the character and not so great at the exaggerated "southern accent". I'm southern myself, so it really is awful to hear. However, my main problem is the plot. Davis is supposed to be a fully trained and experienced police officer, yet she picks up a gun and accidentally shoots a wall because she didn't check the safety or if it was loaded. Even a recreational firearm user would have to be extremely dumb to do that. She acts like a 15yo when she gets in trouble. And then there's the fact that nobody believes she is who she says she is when she gave them her social security number. That is literally linked to all her government info. And yet they can't prove her identity. All in all, it's an okay way to waste time if you can suspend all belief in the facts.

Thirty-nine was a fantastic year. I was married to the man I loved. I had a body that worked without creaking. My grandma, who raised me, was still healthy, and life was pretty damned good. But as they say, all good things come to an end. One year later, I’m a widow. My joints are starting to ache. Gram is in the nursing home, and dead people think my home is some kind of supernatural bed-and-breakfast. Gluing body parts onto semi-transparent people has become a side job - deceased people I’m not even sure are actually there.

Parts of the book were amazing, funny, even compelling. However they were few and far between. most of the book sounded as if it were written by a 15 year old and the narrator, while great at showing emotions, flipped drastically between whispering and yelling and the cadence was very off. I kept struggling to hear and then hurting my eardrums. I think if I had read it, I might have been more kind in my review, but honestly, the dialogue was beginner level and the story was frustrating. The heroine was a classic do- good Sally with a savior complex while also being dumb as a box of rocks. I did laugh at some things though.
