Story
The Demon Gods have risen. Skies’ End has fallen to the colonizers. And Lan and Zen have chosen sides. But they will not fight together. Though Lan inherited the power of the Silver Dragon, she understands the path she must take. She believes the Demon Gods to be the cause of war, conflict, and turmoil, and that the future of the Last Kingdom depends on their being eliminated forever. Worse, she knows that if the Elantians manage to bind one of the legendary beings, their army will be unstoppable.

I can’t give enough compliments to the performer of this audiobook. So incredibly well done, Annie Q. This book really pulled on my heartstrings, but I feel like the ending to the duology fit the story so well.

A quick dark romance listen, with a good storyline and interesting characters. Personally I prefer more fantasy to romance, but this was a good book to branch out on! The narrators did an absolutely amazing job. Highly recommend just to hear their voices, especially Rupert’s!

Story
Once upon a time, there was a king who passed. He left behind two sons, one beloved and one outcast. The older of the two was set to take the throne, but before he could, he had to find a queen to call his own. The younger one was known to be unruly and unhinged. The chosen queen was warned to keep far away from him. Beautiful and cunning, in the light is where she stayed. But late at night, it was the shadowed lands in which she played. Mistakes were made and secrets forged; forgetting duty and her sense. And while the new king had her hand, her heart belonged to the scarred prince.

Lilith has been dying since the day she was born. While she long ago came to terms with her own imminent death, the deaths of everyone she loves are an entirely different matter. As her town slowly withers in the clutches of a mysterious god-cursed illness, she takes matters into her own hands. Desperate to find a cure, Lilith strikes a bargain with the only thing the gods hate more than her village: a vampire, Vale. Perfect novella
Reviewed: 04-19-24
This is everything a novella should be. Long enough to feel for the characters, but not too long that it feels like full-length novel. Perfectly introduced these two characters who I’ve heard will become important in the next book? Loved this little backstory!

Story
Effy Sayre has always believed in fairy tales. Haunted by visions of the Fairy King since childhood, she’s had no choice. Her tattered copy of Angharad—Emrys Myrddin’s epic about a mortal girl who falls in love with the Fairy King, then destroys him—is the only thing keeping her afloat. So when Myrddin’s family announces a contest to redesign the late author’s estate, Effy feels certain it’s her destiny. But musty, decrepit Hiraeth Manor is an impossible task, and its residents are far from welcoming.

Interesting story, great writing
Reviewed: 04-01-24
Interesting story, loved the descriptive writing! The story had me intrigued. There were undertones of mythical elements that made it difficult to tell what was real and what was a figment of the narrator’s imagination.
I wish there was a little bit more world-building here, I was confused by some aspects of the world. They had cars, guns, and architects, but some areas only had candles for light. I didn’t understand where and when the story really took place.
The characters were pretty interesting. Without spoilers, I enjoyed Preston and Effy’s character development throughout and feel like they had a believable arc.

A wonderfully written story that gives me Throne of Glass vibes. Fantasy plot with secondary romance.
Unique magic system, with realistic pros and cons to the type of magic.
I loved learning about the world, and felt there was just enough intrigue to keep me interested in the politics between nations.
The pacing was excellent. I didn’t feel like there were any slow periods or times when the plot moved too quickly, it all felt very balanced.
Performance was also so well done!

Started off a bit slow, but written well
Reviewed: 03-01-24
Great vampire romantasy! The beginning started off a bit slow and predictable, but it picked up around the 1/3rd mark, then it flew by. I wasn’t too keen on the “trials” trope, because it’s so overdone right now, but in this case it was written well. Really enjoyed the relationship between the two main characters. Performance was also brilliant.
