Mel presents concepts in easy ways to follow and apply, with sympathy and humor. There were concepts that could be expanded on, such as applying the concepts with teens and following divorce. It is mentioned it can be found on her website, appendix.

I respect Melanie Joy and may now have read/listened to all her books. As a vegan activist dealing with narcissistic abuse, she speaks to my experiences more than anyone else, tying in the connections of oppression.

I will listen to the book again to make sure I captured most concepts. It seemed to end unexpectedly, as I was assuming she would delve deeper on a complicated, diverse topic, helping to tie in the concepts of othering, hierarchy, power dynamics, oppression, as she did in Powerarchy. I expected added details to create more understanding of the interwoven ideas.

Dr Ramani is easy on the ears. She is comforting, with well-paced articulation. As a narcissistic abuse survivor, I’ve been following her and feel seen.

I appreciated supportive insight through storytelling.
As a vegan, I cringed and was put off by his account of a vegan who he was apparently fixing by showing her some reality of slaughter to desensitize and numb her and be like

I was surprised it ended when I thought it was barely getting started and was waiting for more substantial content to implement and consider rather than superficial essay type observations.

This book is valuable for everyone.
We don’t need to wait for a heart attack to be required to be on a vegan diet.
We can enjoy it and thrive preemptively without getting to that point.
Prevention is the best medicine and a vegan diet can provide us that while helping us live our best lives.
If only all our DRs were vegan, we could solve all health problems, starvation while saving our planet. What a huge payoff for a way of living that has never been easier.

Love and rage don’t seem like very mindful topics to be grouped together, and they are two sides of the same coin. They both coexist. We need to see and be with our rage, with love, it’s trying to tell us something. Noticing and acknowledging our discomfort leads to change.
