About this listen
The companion volume to 12 Rules for Life offers further guidance on the perilous path of modern life.
In 12 Rules for Life, clinical psychologist and celebrated professor at Harvard and the University of Toronto Dr. Jordan B. Peterson helped millions impose order on the chaos of their lives. Now, in this bold sequel, Peterson delivers 12 more lifesaving principles for resisting the exhausting toll that our desire to order the world inevitably takes.
In a time when the human will increasingly imposes itself over every sphere of life - from our social structures to our emotional states - Peterson warns that too much security is dangerous. What’s more, he offers strategies for overcoming the cultural, scientific, and psychological forces causing us to tend toward tyranny, and teaches us how to rely instead on our instinct to find meaning and purpose, even - and especially - when we find ourselves powerless.
While chaos, in excess, threatens us with instability and anxiety, unchecked order can petrify us into submission. Beyond Order provides a call to balance these two fundamental principles of reality itself and guides us along the straight and narrow path that divides them.

From the author of 12 Rules for Life: An Antidote to Chaos comes a provocative hypothesis that explores the connection between what modern neuropsychology tells us about the brain and what rituals, myths, and religious stories have long narrated. A cutting-edge work that brings together neuropsychology, cognitive science, and Freudian and Jungian approaches to mythology and narrative, Maps of Meaning presents a rich theory that makes the wisdom and meaning of myth accessible to the critical modern mind.

The world’s greatest bodybuilder. The world’s highest-paid movie star. The leader of the world’s sixth-largest economy. That these are the same person sounds like the setup to a joke, but this is no joke. This is Arnold Schwarzenegger. And this did not happen by accident. Arnold’s stratospheric success happened as part of a process. As the result of clear vision, big thinking, hard work, direct communication, resilient problem-solving, open-minded curiosity, and a commitment to giving back. All of it guided by the one lesson Arnold’s father hammered into him above all: be useful.

Story
For decades we've been told that positive thinking is the key to a happy, rich life. "F*ck positivity," Mark Manson says. "Let's be honest, shit is f*cked, and we have to live with it." In his wildly popular Internet blog, Manson doesn't sugarcoat or equivocate. He tells it like it is - a dose of raw, refreshing, honest truth that is sorely lacking today. The Subtle Art of Not Giving a F*ck is his antidote to the coddling, let's-all-feel-good mind-set that has infected modern society and spoiled a generation, rewarding them with gold medals just for showing up.

Story
Money - investing, personal finance, and business decisions - is typically taught as a math-based field, where data and formulas tell us exactly what to do. But in the real world people don’t make financial decisions on a spreadsheet. They make them at the dinner table, or in a meeting room, where personal history, your own unique view of the world, ego, pride, marketing, and odd incentives are scrambled together. In The Psychology of Money, award-winning author Morgan Housel shares 19 short stories exploring the strange ways people think about money.

Story
From Howard Zinn’s A People’s History of the United States to the New York Times' 1619 project, the modern Left views American history through the lens of competing oppressions, replacing the traditional understanding that all Americans are part of a shared journey toward the perfection of universal ideals. Their attacks on the values that built our nation, from the rights to free speech and self-defense to the importance of marriage and faith communities, are insidious because they replace each of them with nothing beyond an increased reliance on the government.

The philosopher explains to his pupil how each of us is able to determine our own life, free from the shackles of past experiences, doubts, and the expectations of others.

What does it really mean to be a grown-up in today's world? We assume that once we "get it together" with the right job, marry the right person, have children, and buy a home, all is settled and well. But adulthood presents varying levels of growth and is rarely the respite of stability we expected. Turbulent emotional shifts can take place anywhere between the ages of 35 and 70 when we question the choices we've made, realize our limitations, and feel stuck - commonly known as the "midlife crisis".

Story
In the first half of life, we are naturally preoccupied with establishing ourselves; climbing, achieving, and performing. But as we grow older and encounter challenges and mistakes, we need to see ourselves in a different and more life-giving way. This message of falling down - that is in fact moving upward - is the most resisted and counterintuitive of messages in the world's religions. Falling Upward offers a new paradigm for understanding one of the most profound of life's mysteries: how those who have fallen down are the only ones who understand "up".

Our personal fulfillment depends on how well we choose and execute these commitments. Brooks looks at a range of people who have lived joyous, committed lives, and who have embraced the necessity and beauty of dependence. He gathers their wisdom on how to choose a partner, how to pick a vocation, how to live out a philosophy, and how we can begin to integrate our commitments into one overriding purpose.

Beyond Order is beyond expectations!
Dr. Peterson has written another awesome literary treasure...ok, a bit dramatic, but I think it has some truth. This book humbled me. It showed me that there is more to be seen and known about the world and how to navigate it and the people around it. It helps bring another piece of the puzzle. I hope it helps bring enlightenment and knowledge and joy and humor as it did for me. Happy reading...or listening...or both as the case was with me.

Throughout the span of life, you will suffer, you will confront situations that make you uncomfortable, and you will inevitably see the potential of evil the world is capable of presenting to an individual. Dr. Jordan B. Peterson conveys this message in a brilliant manner that will allow you to become/ be more conscious about the cause of your thoughts, decisions, and actions. This book will give a deeper understanding and meaning to both of the most powerful forces- GOOD and EVIL,chose your force wisely... I will recommend this book to all of my loved ones. Thank you Dr. Peterson, it has been a pleasure to listen to your works. -Duberli R.

He never ceases to fill my life with hope and wisdom
Jordan Peterson is an intellectual juggernaut. In all his books he compiles the best of philosophical and religious literature, scientific research, and his own experiences as a clinical psychologist into eloquent wisdom. Reading his books have truly changed my life for the better when I didn’t think I needed it.
I would recommend this book to anyone, but especially to those who wanted to read Maps of Meaning but thought it was too daunting. He takes some of the best of that book and makes them more concise and applicable.
If you listened to many of his 12 Rules lectures, much of this material will be review. I think he was lecturing about these topics at the same time he was writing about them. Either way, I think this book is valuable because you get his thoughts in their fully articulated form.

it gets a little repetitive and wordy, but the signal to noise ratio is still far higher than most books of this sort today. It's a solid companion to the first and worth getting through. I particularly enjoyed the part about the importance of art and beauty.

Another essential read!
This sequel was every bit as good as his first 12 rules. Dr. Peterson has a way of delving deep into everyday life issues, breaking them down so we can make sense of them, then giving us an ideal to strive for in those situations. This is another outstanding set of rules that I’ve already been able to apply to my life for the better.

Difficult to read but necessary to improve
Ying and Yang, well Beyond order and 12 rules for life, describe how to be organize, then disrupt then to be organized again, to disrupt again :D
Not an easy read, well audio read, but hell of a lot worth it, man! Grow up man, clean your room!
Great read! Love JP,
