Publisher's summary

Why is 1001 Ways to Reward Employees, with over 1.4 million copies in print, such an extraordinary best-seller? Because a little over 10 years ago, Bob Nelson took the seeds of an idea and turned it into something indispensable for business. The idea? That it's not a raise that motivates an employee, and it's not a promotion. What really sparks a person to perform are those intangible, unexpected gestures that signify real appreciation for a job well done.

Now, after having worked with thousands of organizations in the years since 1001 Ways to Reward was first published, Bob Nelson presents a second edition packed with hundreds of new ideas and examples of how companies are using rewards and recognitions to boost productivity and keep their valued employees happy. Airplane mechanics are rewarded with balloons and pinwheels. Another manager calls his employees' mothers and thanks them for raising such industrious children. There are ideas from the offbeat (The Margarita Award) to the company-wide (a quiet room) to the embarrassingly simple (a hand-written thank you note) to the wacky (the Laugh-a-Day challenge) to the formal (a two-week promotion to special assistant to the president).

Each section includes no-cost rewards and low-cost rewards, both public and private, making this new edition an indispensable resource for making the person / achievement / reward equation work.

Fantastic book with great tips!

The book is fantastic, and recommended by Steve Chandler - one of my favorite coaches.
It's obvious that the audio book was produced on a tight budget, and the concepts AS PRESENTED in this abridged version are dry, and the listening is difficult.
I would recommend that you buy the paper bound book and devote 15 minutes, when you get home from work, to reading it unabridged.

not worth the time, even if it were free.

Out of the hundreds of books I have listened to in my time this was the absolute worst narrator I have ever punished myself with. The content of the book is not so bad and even had a few ideas I may use. The problem is the mind numbing reader that is two steps above illiterate. Stack that on top of his constant clearing of the throat or gasping for breath and you may just go buy a hard cover to paw through rather then shove this ice pick in through your ear hole.

Said All The Right Things!

I’m a rewards manager and I love to get the perspective of others that are like minded. You always walk away knowing you learned/remembered some great material that your employees haven’t seen just yet.

Read the Reviews!!

Oh do I wish I’d heeded the reviews and not purchased this one!!! The content is stuff you already know for the most part. But the reason this is SO bad that I want the little bit of money I spent on this back is the recording. It never says who reads it, and I think that’s on purpose. This was absolutely PAINFUL to listen to!!!

Tell us something we don't know!

This book was uninspiring at best. The reading (by the suthor) did not help. There was no enthusiasm for his "suggestions" and little, if any, expression in his voice. I never made it half way through the audible book. It was too tedious.

Hard to listen to

All I can hear is his mouth and breathing and lose focus of the content. Quit listening after 5 min.
