I order another bourbon, neat. This is the drink that will flip the switch. I don’t even know how I got here, to this place, to this point. Something is happening to me lately. I’m drinking too much. My sheets are soaking wet when I wake up from nightmares of decaying corpses. I order another drink and swig it, trying to forget about the latest case I can’t shake. Crime solving for me is more complex than the challenge of the hunt, or the process of piecing together a scientific puzzle. The thought of good people suffering drives me to the point of obsession.

As Farrow drew closer to the truth, shadowy operatives, from high-priced lawyers to elite war-hardened spies, mounted a secret campaign of intimidation, threatening his career, following his every move, and weaponizing an account of abuse in his own family.

Jennette McCurdy was six years old when she had her first acting audition. Her mother’s dream was for her only daughter to become a star, and Jennette would do anything to make her mother happy. So she went along with what Mom called “calorie restriction." She endured extensive at-home makeovers while Mom chided, “Your eyelashes are invisible, okay? You think Dakota Fanning doesn’t tint hers?” She was even showered by Mom until age sixteen while sharing her diaries, email, and all her income. In I’m Glad My Mom Died, Jennette recounts all this in unflinching detail.

Story
For his victims, for their families and for the investigators tasked with finding him, the senselessness and brutality of the Golden State Killer's acts were matched only by the powerlessness they felt at failing to uncover his identity. Then, on April 24, 2018, authorities arrested 72-year-old Joseph James DeAngelo at his home in Citrus Heights, Calif., based on DNA evidence linked to the crimes. Amazingly, it seemed, evil finally had a name. Please note: This work contains descriptions of violent crime and sexual assault and may not be suitable for all listeners.

Berkeley, California, 1933. In a lab filled with curiosities - beakers, microscopes, Bunsen burners, and hundreds upon hundreds of books - sat an investigator who would go on to crack at least 2,000 cases in his 40-year career. Known as the "American Sherlock Holmes", Edward Oscar Heinrich was one of America's greatest - and first - forensic scientists, with an uncanny knack for finding clues, establishing evidence, and deducing answers with a skill that seemed almost supernatural.

Interview: Listen in as the creators of the hit podcast My Favorite Murder and the murderino movement share how their new memoir, Stay Sexy and Don't Get Murdered: The Definitive How-To Guide, perfectly reflects their special blend of true-crime obsession and self-care.
Editor's Pick
We laughed. We cried. As an homage to their favorite podcast, instead of arm-wrestling over who would review the highly anticipated Stay Sexy and Don’t Get Murdered, editors Kat and Sam channeled their inner Karen and Georgia and told each other what they loved about this listen. Kat: Sam, what surprised you most about this memoir? SSDGM—goodbye!
We both insisted on doing this write-up.
Sam: Actually—the lack of gruesome details. And it was refreshing! There’s no shortage of awesome true crime to listen to and watch right now, so I actually appreciated the fact that this memoir was not so directly about true crime. I felt like I got the chance to get to know these ladies a bit better. And they do go into their true crime origin stories, so I still got to share some of that fellow murderino kinship with them. What about you, Kat?
Kat: I was a little nervous about how their off-the-cuff charm would translate into a scripted, edited work of Literature. But they nailed it. They write how they speak (saltily!), and they intersperse the studio sessions with live readings, surprise cameos, and sweet Q&As between K&G. NEED FOR RANDOM BANTER, FULFILLED. And it goes without saying that audio is the medium of choice for this memoir. Should we each name our favorite parts?
Sam: Yes! I absolutely loved Georgia’s top 10 takeaways from therapy. As someone who has also been going to and praising the benefits of therapy my whole life, I found myself both nodding along and learning some new mantras, like "Motivation isn’t necessary. You just have to do it."
Kat: Ooh, so true. I’m always a sucker for "drunk Karen" and her stories of humiliation and general life don’ts, so I loved her analogy about how drinking is like getting into a hot tub with your funnest friends—till it gets cold and extremely not cute. It’s a hilarious metaphor that really works, and she sneaks in some deep wisdom along the way.
Sam: Drunk Karen, always a gem.
Kat: Any final takeaways about SSDGM?
Sam: Just like the podcast, I felt like there was just something special about this listen. I felt like K&G really opened up here in a more nuanced, deeply personal way than they ever have before. There were so many "same" moments for me, and I honestly could have listened for seven more hours.
Kat: I agree, the level of vulnerability is so inspiring. I’m continually impressed by what these women have brought to the world—I look forward to future academic research on "f**k politeness"—and I can’t wait to see what they do next. Also, I cried, and I am NOT a crier. 11/10 would listen again.

"You'll change your mind." That's what everyone says to Jen Kirkman - and countless women like her - when she confesses she doesn't plan to have children. But you know what? It's hard enough to be an adult. You have to dress yourself and pay bills and remember to buy birthday gifts. You have to drive and get annual physicals and tip for good service. Some adults take on the added burden of caring for a tiny human being with no language skills or bladder control.

Now, he is going to prove that for him, there's no gray area between killing for a living-and killing to stay alive.

Story
In the most extraordinary journey Ann Rule has ever undertaken, America's master of true crime has spent more than two decades researching the story of the Green River Killer, who murdered more than 49 young women. Green River, Running Red is a harrowing account of a modern monster, a killer who walked among us undetected. It is also the story of his quarry -- of who these young women were and who they might have become.

The self help book I didn’t know was missing from my life
This book changed my life. I laughed. I cried. I learned. I have told everyone I know that they need to stop what they are doing and check it. This book changed my life.

Could have listened for many more hours
I am a big fan of MFM and was present when one part of this book was recorded at a live show. The honesty and vulnerability put forth by Karen and Georgia was raw and lovely. I enjoyed their reading and am pre disposed to enjoy the content which speaks to my heart. They helped me and many like me find our tribe. Bravo

Just What I Wanted
I love the stories Karen and Georgia tell each week, but it’s their insights and anecdotes that make you feel like you’re listening to two of your best friends chatting. Whoever said no one wants to hear two women talk to each other for hours never listened to MFM.
The book is a deeper dive into their lives that, as an elder millennial, I related to having grown up in the eighties and nineties. Also I can relate to both women in different ways (hello latchkey kids and anxiety and therapy). It’s funny and touching and everything a fan of the show wants.
If you’re a Murderino, you’re gonna love it.

Never finished an audiobook so quickly
I couldn’t get enough! It’s amazing that after telling so many stories over the years on their podcast that they can write an entire book full of new stories and new lessons. They both have had such amazing lives and have so much wisdom from their pasts. The book is hilarious yet heartwarming and amazes me how I feel so connected to two ladies I’ve never met. They’re good for the world. I hope they write another one!

murderino
I really enjoyed listening to this. It felt like long episode of their podcast. I do feel like because they share so much on the podcast, some of this felt like things I already knew. However I loved getting a deeper look into their histories.

A testament to hope and found family
This book verifies everything about women supporting each other and owning your shit and being afraid to do something and doing it anyway. These ladies don’t sugarcoat anything. I love them for it.

This book is Exactly Right
If you love Karen and Georgia, you will love this audio book. It feels just like an extended episode of My Favorite Murder, except with a lot less murder. I love the casual, lighthearted feel of the book, even though they delve into some important and vulnerable topics. If you don’t love Karen and Georgia (yet), this book is the fast pass to getting on the muderino train! SSDGM!

this book will be your f*cking hoorah
I love MFM, I've listened to it in surgery I've had to be awake for, at work, and anytime I am anxious. I was expecting MFM, but it was SO much more. I sobbed, I hurt with GH and KK. It helped me give the courage to start fixing things in my life and think of things differently. It was amazing and I am so proud of GH and KK. Thank you, J.E

Exactly Right
Only a couple of hours into this book I already wish it would never end. The candid, brave, sometimes sad/upsetting stories are told in the spirit of the podcast -- seasoned with plenty of whip-smart humor to keep things from getting too dark. MFM the podcast has always been about much more than the title implies (mental health. self-care. feminism. snacks!). This book goes even deeper and is the perfect gateway listen for the uninitiated. The mix of different audio styles (the authors reading their own stories, conversations, live readings) is a great touch. Thank you Karen and Georgia. You did it!!!!!!
