About this listen

A tropical paradise destroyed by hurricanes.

Converted into an open-air prison.

The perfect place for undesirables.

The American dream is a mirage. The gap between the haves and the have-nots is wider than ever before. The haves live a life of opulence, with robotic domestics and self-driving vehicles. The have-nots struggle to survive, their jobs long since replaced by automation, with only Universal Basic Income standing between them and starvation.

Crime is nearly nonexistent, thanks to the surveillance state and the test. Ubiquitous cameras and facial recognition software deter and detect would-be criminals, and the test identifies psychopaths with 99.59 percent accuracy. Citizens who test positive receive a one-way ticket to US Penal Colony East. The have-nots call it Psycho Island.

In 2050, people struggle for their piece of a shrinking pie. Derek Reeves is one of those people, a small farmer, his business hanging by a thread. His wife, Rebecca, dreams of the finer things in life. Jacob Roth, CEO and member of the most powerful banking family in the world, sweeps Rebecca off her feet and gives her the lifestyle she craves.

Summer Fitzgerald’s pregnant. Like all prospective parents, she wants a designer baby. These children vastly outperform natural-born children. Unfortunately, her nurse’s salary and her fiancé’s low-level tech job don’t pay enough to give their little bundle of joy the must-have advantage in the new economy.

Naomi Sutton is a congresswoman with her eye on the White House. Unwilling to take campaign donations with strings, she lacks the budget or the connections for a serious run at the presidency. In a town of sharks, she’s the only one who truly cares about the people. Will she compromise her ideals to sit on the throne of power? Will she make good on her promise to close Psycho Island?

In 2050, the seeds of discontent are growing. The elites will stop at nothing to maintain their dominance. But the people are awakening to the rigged game.

And they’re very, very angry.

Entertainment at its best!

I listened to this books while doing my household chores and my house is now clean as a whistle! I couldn’t stop listening. This book has it all. The good the bad and the ugly and a snarky socialist politician! Looking forward to book 2

A look into our future.

I gladly give this book 5 stars. It is quite a lengthy listen and there's more story in the next book. But this book has plenty of action. Plenty of problems. Plenty of relationships. It offers plenty to think about. This future is scary. Can humans marry robots? Can we artificially "build" our children? Criminals sent away to an island to fend for themselves. Non criminals, too. What will that look like? Will we all be wearing chips so the government can keep tabs? Etc. Etc. Etc.
Warning: Violence. Torture. Murder. This author will kill off people you love.

The two narrators are the absolute best! Tristan Wright and Sara Grace Wright. They perform their gender appropriate parts to perfection. They bring this story to life with their various voices. An excellent 5 star performance.

Excellent Story and Narration

2050 Psycho Island, the audio book is a fantastic listen! I read the book quite a while ago and was going to start a second read. Fortunately, I had an opportunity to listen to the audiobook and jumped at the chance.
The narrators are great. Despite there being a lot of characters in this story it was very easy to follow and easy to differentiate between characters. I love that there is a female and a male voice. It sounds so much more authentic than having a male read female parts or vice-versa.
The story is action-packed! It's a political thriller with UBI (universal basic income), autonomous cars, serious surveillance, social credit scores, elections, propaganda, socialism, bombs, guns, island prisons, even submarines and so much more! It's a lot, seriously, a LOT! But it's easy enough to keep up with (due to the awesome narrators!) and keeps you on the edge of your seat.
I definitely recommend this audio book, it's a great listen and I can't wait to listen to the other books in this series!
Phil M. Williams has been one of my favorite authors for a very long time. All of his books are well researched, well thought out and fully developed. They delve into topics that touch all of us at different times. They're very thought provoking and will challenge your own mindsets and motives. Very few authors do this as well as he does.

Futuristic Political Thriller

This book was great, but it ended on a cliffhanger! The tale was fascinating and thought provoking. I had to stay up into the early hours of the morning to hear the whole audiobook in one sitting as I wanted to know in what paths the author would take the story. I enjoyed it a lot. I'm looking forward to attaining the next book in the series. Tristan Wright's and Sarah Grace Wright's dual narration was great and added to the entertainment of the story. I was given a free copy of the audiobook and I have voluntarily left this review.

A vivid but frightening glimpse into a possible fu

Psycho Island does an excellent job of setting the stage for the 2050 series. This book provides an in-depth exploration of each character and the state of America in 2050. Being frankly candid, there were many instances in this book where I wondered if Phil Williams is an accomplished futurist as well as author, or if he has an external method of divining the future. Aside from this question, this book created such a vivid picture of the people and the country that it was not just frightening but highly addictive. Since this review is based on listening to the audiobook of Psycho Island credit for the mesmerizing nature of the story also goes to Tristan Wright and Sarah Grace Wright. Their excellent narration took the story to an even higher level.
I received a review copy of the audiobook version of 2050: Psycho Island from the author and chose to provide this review.
