About this listen

Under secret orders to assassinate the Widow, Hawkeye, the rough-edged marksman, finds himself caught up in a violent prison break that releases some of the world's most vicious and powerful criminals. Defying his superiors, Hawkeye joins forces with the sultry Russian spy and a mismatched group of personalities that include Spider-Man, Spider-Woman, Luke Cage, Captain America, and Iron Man.

Unexpected betrayals and shocking revelations lead the team from Manhattan's top security Raft prison to the untamed jungle of the Savage Land in this thrilling novel.

Best origin story of the new avengers

I enjoy that they got a lot of the scenes right with Peter’s life, how spider-woman was feeling, Hawk eyes determination to see things in different ways just listening to it I can actually picture those’d scenes and more in my mind

Super cool!

A story action packed and characters that have depth such that they are more interesting than the bad guys.

Good Superhero Story

This was a good representation of the original New Avengers story. Well written and action packed. The presentation was excellent. I enjoyed the full cast, sound effects, and music.

Much more depth than expected.

Essentially a Hawkeye, Jessica Drew, & Black Widow POV of the events adapted from the comics. I enjoyed the novelization despite some of the changes, and really appreciated a greater depth to some of the characters. This is especially true for Black Widow, who we find after just defecting from the BW program. Good listen, the full cast really helps these comic stories pop. Loved it.

Not Bad for a Performance Piece

Pros: The voice actors were mostly quality casting choices; Iron Man and Hawkeye were particularly well done. Story moved quickly, though it is not directly adapted from the original comic run, and seems to have left segments of the novel out as well.

Cons: Distracting foley work for many sound effects took away from the narration. Russian accents seemed a bit overplayed.

Fartles and Misogyny

This book had an interesting storyline and great voice actors. I enjoyed the ambient sound effects (except for one time when they kept walking and walking and walking and walking, and the footsteps sound started making me go nuts.) I enjoyed Spiderman's banter.

The misogyny really bothered me in this one, however. Most of the time it was subtle, but at other times it really wasn't. A few examples off the top of my head: A man saying he was glad there were no women on a mission because women talk too much. And a man saying that mothers should not pose for photos until after they get their figure back, etc. What is a man wearing? "A sleeveless shirt." What is a woman wearing? Her breasts are nicely rounded under her tight suit. A woman is in charge? She will be portrayed as incompetent, and she will be called out, demeaned, repeatedly interrupted, and then dismissed without being allowed a chance to defend herself.
