About this listen

A few days after the Hunsford Proposal, Darcy unexpectedly comes upon Elizabeth Bennet on the road to London. Her carriage has met with an accident! Of course, Darcy comes to the rescue despite the recent, scathing rejection of his hand and heart. Circumstances force them to seek refuge in a nearby farmhouse, posing as man and wife!

Why was Elizabeth travelling to London in a strange carriage, days before her visit to the metropolis was scheduled? Why did their hostess at the farmhouse welcome them with a shooting rifle. And with the acrimony and hurt of the proposal still raw, how would our dear couple navigate this chance encounter! This light-hearted story answers all these questions and more!

Love the voice actor

I loved the story - I think the voice actor’s deep voice adds to Mr. Darcy’s allure.

Definitely listen to a voice that is all that

The narrator’s voice is incredibly sexy, very good choice. I found the narrator to have a wonderful adaptation to usage of his voice to make the story come alive. I loved how this story of lost love found away to second chance. The road of love had many misfortunes, but ending wonderfully

Nice Story

Arthur Rowan’s five-star narration and performance is excellent. His rich and velvety voice is expressive and melodious, and to be honest, rather swoon worthy. I’m so glad to see him narrating another novel in this genre and hope for more in the future.

Elizabeth is banished from the Hunsford parsonage after Darcy leaves Rosings without a word. According to Lady Catherine she has used her arts and allurements to draw him away from Anne. Charlotte finds a companion to travel with. Mrs. Dawson is accompanied by her three-year-old granddaughter, Millie. On the way to London, there is a terrible carriage accident that takes the life of Mrs. Dawson, and injures Elizabeth, leaving Millie alone.

Darcy, who had stopped his journey to London overnight, comes across them and takes charge of their care. With no rooms left at the inn, they stay with a local elderly woman, who becomes a subplot, adding some mystery to the story. As the carriage is repaired, they spend time getting to know each other better and caring for Millie.

This is a nice tale. I loved the interactions between Millie and ODC, and the building love story between them. Unfortunately, I couldn’t like Elizabeth calling Darcy ‘Alex’. That just feels really off to me. The subplot wasn’t all that exciting to me either, as it made my attention wander, but I thoroughly enjoyed all the rest. I adored this Darcy.

Chance Encounter

I love a variation that really tells a different story. This is absolutely one of those. Imagine Darcy caring for a sweet three-year old girl, singing lullabies, and kissing hurt fingers…❤️
Arthur Rowan has a super voice for Darcy. So nice to have another P&P variation narrated by him!

Touching story

This is a sweet & touching story and with Arthur Rowan's narration made it even better. I hope that he will start narrating more JAFF as his voice is perfect for these stories. The little girl will steal your heart and she stole everyone's around her. I love the on page time that Darcy & Elizabeth have with each other as it gives them a chance to deal with their pride and prejudices along with their quick temper & judgements. The last chapter with Darcy's journal was fun.

A variation with a few new twists!

This will definitely be a re-listen. Readers get to see Darcy’s kinder side throughout the story. There was a lot of miscommunication but, of course, a happy ending was had by all. Except for Lady Catherine, of course! The narrator was excellent! I refuse to to listen to any books read by a virtual voice.

A little dull

Not much happens - dull uninspiring plot. My favorite character is the three year old girl, Millie. She is precious and she loves Mr. Darcy.

Too many anachronistic errors

There are reasons I’ve made a pact to never again read a work of P&P fan fiction that has a small child or an animal other than a horse. This one had both AND more than one horse that moved the plot along. I’m just way too much of a cynic for this book. Yes I’m a hopeless romantic, but sometimes too much saccharine is just too much. This was over the top for me. The book made many many oh so many errors in what was appropriate during the time period. From medicine to manners… just, no.
I could have forgiven much if the narrator hadn’t mispronounced several words, making the book sound amateurish and highlighting the need for a stronger editor. One last note: if fruit is out of season during the time of year in the story, they shouldn’t be eating it. Flowers, if mentioned by name, should also be in season. Please. Stuff like this drives me crazy.
