Publisher's summary

The Davies and Montgomery families have been locked in an ancient feud. But it’s a thin line between love and hate....

Two enemies

Carys Davies is doing everything in her power to avoid marriage. Staying single is the only way to hide the secret that could ruin her—and her family—if it was revealed. For the past two seasons, she’s scandalized the ton with her outrageous outfits and brazen ways in a futile bid to deter potential suitors. Outwardly confident and carefree, inside she’s disillusioned with both men and love. There’s only one person who’s never bought her act—the only man who makes her heart race: Tristan Montgomery, one of her family’s greatest rivals.

One scandalous bargain

Wickedly proper architect Tristan needs a respectable woman to wed, but he’s never stopped wanting bold, redheaded Carys. When she mockingly challenges him to show her what she’s missing by not getting married, Tristan shocks them both by accepting her indecent proposal: one week of clandestine meetings, after which they’ll go their separate ways. But kissing each other is almost as much fun as arguing, and their affair burns hotter than either of them expects. When they find themselves embroiled in a treasonous plot, can they trust each other with their hearts, their secrets...and their lives?

Slow to start but great ending

I wasn't sure I liked the story at first. I wasn't sure I liked either MCs. But the author does a great job in their development. In a word, they grow on you. Their romance is a struggle but believable.
Narration was good.

Excellent listen - great story

Just like the previous this book was full of great characters, lots of romance, some mystery and a bit too much sex. I listen to my audio books mostly on my Alexa. My command "Alexa, next chapter" works great for skipping the sex scenes. I'm not a prude by any means, but sex in a book is like icing on a cake.....too much can ruin a good cake. I really like the way Kate Bateman incorporates romance and mystery...it makes the book much more interesting. Beverly A Crick did another great job in bringing Ms. Bateman's rich characters to life....and she can sing. What a pleasant surprise.

4.0 with nice spice

Excellent book! Different take on enemies to lovers, very nice spice. Almost makes it to my favorites, I give it 4.25 stars. Very excited for the next in the series. Now to go read some of this author's backlist!

Not Bad

This wasn't that bad. I did hate that the heroine allowed herself to be blackmailed.
