December 2012, a massive solar storm knocks out the power grid. Three hundred million Americans are suddenly faced with a survival situation. They have no water, electricity or fuel. Food rapidly disappears from the store shelves, not to be replaced. Only three percent will survive. Those three percent will have much in common. What does it take to be one of them?

There are some very creative and new to me solutions for EOTWAWKI problems. There is a lot of teaching from father to children, allowing us to learn his prepper ideas, theories and beliefs while reading. This is not a classic everyone would love to read like "Alas Babylon" or "One Second After." It doesn't include model numbers like the "Patriots" series. Those living in Texas would particularly like this book. There are no zombies or science fiction. Lots of violence, clean language, nice Christian family making hard choices... it got better as went along. A few hard to believe passages...
It is a part of a series, but this is stand alone if desired. The second book presents entirely different ideas and theories for a son traveling cross country alone. It was also well worth the read. At this writing the 3rd isn't out yet or I would be reading it now. Narrator was irritating at first with multiple accents really grating on my nerves, but he seemed to relax or do better as the book progressed... at least I didn't notice as much. I will probably read again.
EOTWAWKI or prepper fans will like...

Would you recommend this audiobook to a friend? If so, why?
Yes. A compelling story packed with useful information. What did you like best about this story?
The thoughtfulness and planning for survival.Would you be willing to try another one of Michael Hacker’s performances?
First of all, there seems to have been problems during production that resulted in a tinny quality to the sound, right from the beginning. There are also faint sounds in the background, which as difficulty to ignore!I was distracted the reader's accent and tone. Would have enjoyed the story more with a different reader -- and with better sound quality!
Was this a book you wanted to listen to all in one sitting?
No. It's easier to digest in small pieces.Any additional comments?
Please clean up the recording's technical problems and re-release. Thank you!Technical problems with production?

Hacker isn't my favorite narrator, however, he didn't bore me. He does read the story and try to keep you entertained - I just don't like it when narrators try and do accents.
Good listen

What did you like best about this story?
It is a freaky thought of how life would go on should the world lose power/technology. This is far less dramatic that the zombie theme and far more gritty. It talks quite a bit on how to survive doomsday situations and in the preparation needed.Any additional comments?
I did enjoy Mr. Hacker as the narrator. His tempo kept me engaged in the story and drew me through a book that was difficult to contemplate.Post technology world

Great book

The story revolved around a TX man and his family and friends. He had been preparing for a disaster for years and when Earth was hit by Solar Discharge he was prepared to act. He had prepared his family even though they did not take it as seriously as he did. He also had a friend who was prepared for such and event as well even if their plans were different.
The book pointed out that you must take actions that normally would be objectionable if you are to survive. Roman returns home using his car that he had set aside protected components for and his children and their family manage to get to their place and hunker down and wait till the worst is over before going to meet Roman and his wife.
The story is in segments describing what happens to various members of the family and how they react.
It is a good story and a good narrator. Enjoyable listen all around.
