A Fairly Odd Mermaid Tale

A bit different than the traditional tale of The Little Mermaid. When the little mermaid, Helen, follows her heart, things take an unexpected twist.

I enjoyed this short story written by Erica Lovitz and narrated by Ashleigh Binder.

I was given this free review copy audiobook at my request and I have voluntarily left this review.

Not Much There There

This is a super short sapphic retelling of The Little Mermaid story, only a little over a half hour in audiobook format. As you might imagine, with such a short story, there's little room for plot or character development. The mermaid is determined to live her life more freely, but things are not as simple as she believes they will be. While a gentleman suitor is in the picture briefly, that relationship naturally pales compared to the one between the ladies. The book doesn't get steamy at all, unlike another book in this series. Frankly, this book left little impression on me. I listened to it last night, and I'm actually having trouble recalling the details of it to share in this review. While I love the idea of retelling classic fairy tales from a sapphic perspective, the ones I've listened to by this author so far are too short to really have any meat—or even much interest—to the story.
