About this listen

Twisty and ingenious, A Friend Indeed is an engrossing psychological thriller perfect for fans of Liane Moriarty and Ruth Ware.

When single mom Jo Dykstra was at her lowest—jobless and penniless—her childhood friend Dana McFarlane helped her out big-time by securing her a teaching job and thus an opportunity for a new life in the affluent Pacific Northwest town of Glebes Bay. So, when Jo gets a frantic late-night call from Dana, sobbing and desperate for help, it feels like a chance to help her friend in return.

The last thing Jo expects to see when she arrives at Dana’s oceanfront mansion? Her friend’s handsome and wealthy husband, Stan, dead, sprawled face down on the floor. Dana admits to killing her husband following years of secret abuse and begs Jo not to call the police. For nearly two decades, Dana’s marriage and family had looked picture perfect. Who’d ever believe that pillar-of-the-community Stan was a monster? Determined to cover up her husband’s killing and shield her kids from scandal, Dana convinces Jo to help her dispose of the body.

But the cover-up starts to crumble when a blackmailer threatens to expose their crime. Hounded by gossipy neighbors, ill-fated lovers, and zealous cops, truth and lies are laid bare between Jo and Dana, putting their families in danger and threatening to shatter a thirty-year friendship. Shocking and fast-paced, A Friend Indeed is a riveting tale about the power of friendship and the deadly weight of lies.

Jo is a true friend indeed!

As a newbie to this author, I decided to roll the dice! I powered through the audiobook during two 12-hour shifts at work (yes, I multitask like a pro!). At first, I was a bit skeptical about the realism, but then the story started to unfold like a flower in spring. I always say that a good narrator is the secret sauce to a great book, and Hillary Huber—my fave—absolutely nailed it! Andi Arndt brought her character to life like a magician pulling a rabbit out of a hat! By the end, I cracked the case and figured out who the culprit was, and let me tell you, that twist was a delightful cherry on top! If you're into mystery and suspense, grab "A Friend Indeed"—it’s a rollercoaster of lies and plot twists that’ll keep you on the edge of your seat!

A gr eat mystery from start to finish.

i enjoyed the seemingly unshakeable friend "in deed" portrayed by Jo. Surprising twists that were unforeseen Mothers everywhere will appreciate all the sacrifices made for the offspring.

Interesting twist

I enjoyed this book from beginning to end all the twist and turns we very unexpected. At times I was confused between the future and the past thoughts. The characters were very well painted.

Oh what a tangled web we weave!

First time listening to this author. Kept me listening and entertained. I did not guess what happened here which is a plus! There is plenty going on to keep you listening and it also throws you off and makes it hard to guess. It was twisty and worth a listen in my opinion. I was surprised at the end.

Something was missing

There were a few holes in the plot and, for me, the most disappointing fact was that neither of the protagonists proved to be heroines, it’s not a “feel good” book.
