Four stars for a book of surprises. And the biggest surprise is saved for the end of the book. My heart and soul ached while reading A Mother's Confession, realizing I know people who are so similar to each of the characters. I found that scary while fearing there were times I should have spoken up. Seems each main character had good and bad traits, and I found myself understanding why. I recommend this book for almost everyone.

In the beginning, I wondered where the book could go since we already knew so much. Yet, there was so much we didn’t without even realizing it. Isn’t that the way life is? You think you have it figured out and then wake up one day to realize you only thought you did? Wonderful book at a horrible subject. Definitely worth your time to read. I’m glad I did.

I gave the book a five star review because it was one of those books I couldn’t put down. Anyone who has found themselves in a controlling or abusive relationship can understand how it gradually takes hold as you are separated from friends and family. It can and does happen to people from all walks of life. This particular story took me by surprise when I finally got what was really going on and all made sense.

Finish this one. There is more to it than you might think

Very well written book. It is set in Australia. It tells the story of women caught in an abusive relationship. It shows the horrible consequences that can result when a person is controlled and manipulated into believing they are the cause of the abuse. It told the story of a coddled boy, one that could never do wrong in his parents eyes, especially his mothers. And how that boy grew up to be a strong, confident, controlling and manipulating man.

I have never read a story that showed how these abusive relationships progress and how they are "justified" in the aggressors mind. The story was griping, and heart wrenching. It seemed a little slow, but stick with it. The story builds and all is revealed in the end.

Wow. What an emotional ride.

I could not stop listening to this book. I loved how the story was told from each characters point of view. A friends daughter went through an abusive marriage and by the grace of god she was able to get out with her daughter after a horrifying night. I could not stop thinking about her as I listened to this story. It just makes you wonder how many women are in similar situations. Please read or listen to this book

Heartbreaking and beautifully written

Heartbreaking story, but beautiful. I enjoyed it. It made me angry at times, but all domestic abuse cases do. I wanted to slap Ivy so badly!

Great story

This book took me through a whole range of emotions -- it gave me chills; it exasperated me as I listened, cursing Olivia to the heavens; it made me want to laugh and cry. I couldn't stop listening. And when I got to the absolute "O M G!!! NOOOOOO!!!" portion (which I won't let on because it's the crux of the book), I had to go back and re-listen to some parts to make it all fit in. This woman's confession made me hate and love Olivia; however, I hated her mother (and father)-in-law with a passion ... this could be anyone's true story! I discussed this book with my co-workers, trying to gauge why people do the things they do to each other in the name of "love"

OMG!! What a heartbreaking, yet excellent book!
