Publisher's summary
After his wife is brutally murdered, police officer Kyle Willing will do whatever it takes to bring her killer to justice.
As Kyle grapples with loss and raising his eight-year-old son on his own, he is given an opportunity for revenge by his brother-in-law, best-selling mystery writer Thomas Drake. Drake can give Kyle just what he wants: a chance at catching his wife's killer.
But can Kyle trust his sister's husband? The two men have been rivals since high school, and it appears that Drake might have an agenda of his own.
As Drake takes steps to orchestrate the perfect murder, Kyle must decide how far he is willing to go to get revenge. He will have to choose between upholding the laws he was sworn to protect and exacting his own unique brand of justice.
When a man loses everything, how far will he go for revenge?

Every crime scene has a smell. A look. A trail of DNA. It also has a feel. A lingering residue that floats unseen, like bacteria in the air, just waiting to be absorbed. To be felt. To be interpreted. And the man and the boy are the only ones who know this. Veteran major crimes detective Kate Messenger has a problem on her hands: six bodies - father, mother, three children, and the family dog - all slaughtered in their own home, with not a single clue or a shred of DNA that points to the butcher who killed them.

What’s happening in Acker’s Gap, West Virginia? Three elderly men are gunned down over their coffee at a local diner, and seemingly half the town is there to witness the act. Still, it happened so fast, and no one seems to have gotten a good look at the shooter. Was it random? Was it connected to the spate of drug violence plaguing poor areas of the country just like Acker’s Gap? Or were Dean Streeter, Shorty McClurg, and Lee Rader targeted somehow?

A great mystery!
Any additional comments?
Great story...slow start but great twists and turns and an unexpected ending. The narrator was great and the storyline was perfect. I would definitely recommend this to lovers of mystery.

a twisty plot with believable characters
after listening to the whole story it's obvious who the mastermind killer is from major hints throughout. it is probably the guy you suspected. but J.W. Bouchard throws a curve ball at the end that turns the final confrontation into a showdown of an entirely different sort with a scrap of redemption for the villain. the donut eating detective seems a little too dumb to be a cop. even in modern day America. the main character is pretty believable throughout, though a little slow on the uptake. seems to have the right pacing for a crime novel. feeds just the right amount of information to keep the reader unsure till the end. performance seems a little lackluster at times, but Mr. Foster does a reasonable range of voices and his reading is easy to follow.

This is a suspense, murder mystery novel with just the right amount of twists and turns to keep you on the edge of your seat. I figured out parts, but had to keep listening to make sure I was correct. I really liked this book.
I will look for more from this author.
The narration was well done, I felt like I knew the characters.

The Narrator really made the story.
Any additional comments?

I’ve noticed that I tend to lean towards mystery, thrillers and fantasy when it comes to audiobooks. I’m not 100% sure why I can’t just sit and read the books but I enjoy listening to them.
A Patient Man began pretty decent. I was intrigued to see how the story was going to unfold. I felt like in the beginning there was a lot of information being dumped to build up the story. I found myself not reaching to finish the audiobook; I could go days without listening to it because I felt like I didn’t really need to know what was going on.
Towards the beginning, I had predictions about where the story was going. Unfortunately all my predictions came true, I wanted something that didn’t turn into a classic cliché that I had seen in the movies, on TV shows. I wanted something completely different. I thought the author had good ideas, it could’ve been an original story with the way he had initially set things up but he then went to the straight way and it ended up being pretty cliché.
I was pretty happy with how the story was wrapped up. At first, I was thinking this was going to be a cliffhanger type of story but that didn’t turn out to be the case. He really did tie up lose ends and left everything answered and I really liked that.
The narrator was really good. I felt like his voice added to the story were some areas where lacking. I would listen to more books narrated by him.

Well read mystery
I really enjoyed the narrator's voice and will definitely look for more books read by him. The story was a solid mystery but I would like to have witnessed more of the characters' interactions in high school. They had a complicated relationship that didn't get a chance to really play out in this story.

A Patient Man... takes Patience
The story of A Patient Man is thought out but familiar to other stories of the same genre, it was at times predictable. If it was broken up with a bit more suspense it would have been a more fascinating story, but it was enjoyable. It was slow at the beginning but picked up steam.
I found the narration of the book to be very clear, but would have liked some inflection or tonal differences for the different characters or emotions.
Enjoyed it overall.

Revenge can be sweet
Would you recommend this audiobook to a friend? If so, why?
Yes, I'd recommend it because it was intriguing and the ending wasn't expected.
What was the most interesting aspect of this story? The least interesting?
Most interesting was the inner conflict of right and wrong and I did not hear an uninteresting aspect.
Which scene was your favorite?
Where the wife's murder paid for his crime.
If you were to make a film of this book, what would the tag line be?
Revenge can be sweet but can be conflicting.

Great story with good twists!
Any additional comments?
I really enjoyed this book. It was a good story and well read by the narrator. I kept thinking of Matthew Broderick as the narrator sounded like him on occasion.
The main characters really had weird and dynamic relationships. Probably not too likely, but made believable by the author. The constant tension between the two main men characters was palpable through the entire book. There seemed to be quite a bit of lying going on with lots of background that you don't really learn until the end of the book. But there is some foreshadowing which is evident when it happens and that the main character picks up on a little later. Kyle really went through a lot of internal struggles and it was fun for me to experience these struggles with him. Really felt for the guy.
While I was reading this, you just know the way the story is being laid out will have a good twist at the end, and this book didn't disappoint. It wasn't a bombshell, but you can somewhat piece it together before it happens because the author does a good job of throwing you hints. I really enjoyed the way it was worded.
The narrator did and excellent job. Not overly enthusiastic as you'll find with some narrators (which I find can be annoying and detract from the story), but definitely not boring or monotone. His voice is smooth and he did a good job of keeping a good pace throughout.
Overall, really good listen. Nice job!!!
