About this listen

When James Baldwin takes a new position with the B&O Railroad, he and Carolina decide to move their growing family from Baltimore to a small rural town in the Allegheny Mountains. Carolina's stepdaughter, Victoria, becomes enthralled with handsome Kiernan, an Irish railroad worker. But will the upper-class Baldwins even consider him as a suitor for their daughter? And when tensions rise among the workers, can James stop a destructive plan before it's too late?

I have really enjoyed this entire series and learned a lot about the railroad! Wonderful characters living life with their ups and downs but with Hod always there. The narrator was fantastic in how she put so much emotion in the words!

Another great series

I listened to entire series, Ribbons of Steel, and enjoyed the thoughtful and gracious tone. A true Christian example.

Thoughtful Christian Life Story

I found that I had to adjust the volume regularly. The voice was lowered or the narrator whispered too much. I had to back up and listen again with the volume turned up and then the normal volume returned and I had to turn the volume down. This is the first audio book I had had this problem with.

Volumn control issues, too much whispering

I enjoyed this three-book series. The characters were interesting as was the storyline. The heroine's obsession with building the railroad (not a profession available to women in those days)got to be tiresome by the third book and the ending left several main storylines hanging. I thought maybe there was going to be a fourth book but I haven't seen any indication of that.

Good story but...

Love the story series so far. The writers draw one into the embrace of an actually fascinating story of such love and commitment. The story line causes a listener to feel as they are actually part of all the characters and their struggles and life’s journeys.
One truly looks forward the next listen in the series. The characters’ emotions are as raw as our own real time lives, and we identify with the personalities of the characters. What a feeling of both pain and joy one shares from the authors.

I’m an avid audiobook listener. The series was wonderful and uplifting. It was not maudlin or saccharine & I learned a lot about the trials of our early railroad construction.
Marnye Young made it exceptionally more enjoyable with her narration. One of the best I’ve ever ever heard switching skillfully between several accents in one conversation. Few can do that so well as she has in this series!

I thoroughly enjoyed this series!

Both Judith and Tracie are such gifted writers. I liked the story and the historic time period of which was written about. I especially like the narrator’s voices. Well done!

Amazing gifted writers

I enjoy this book because I have been through Weirton West Virginia many times . And have seen the tracks along the Ohio river. I love trains and it is sad to see so many rail ways removed.

Enchanting

Loved these three books. Exciting, with real solutions to challenges of life. So good to listen to a great story without the crap in so many books today.

Encouraging story
