Publisher's summary

When falling in love is the punchline . . .

Farley Jones is being forced to date Meyer Harrigan, the man she has come to love, in order to make all of her stand-up dreams come true.

It's agony-a tragedy, even. In lieu of flowers, please send cash . . .

Meyer and his daughter Hazel have been everything to her since they came into her life three years ago. So, all joking aside, the stakes are especially high when it's not only her career, but both of those relationships on the line.

A former stand-up star himself, Meyer has been vital to the trajectory of her career since he began managing her . . . Since he became her closest and most treasured friend, in the process.

This friendship is the only reason why, when the biggest opportunity of Farley's career includes thrusting him back into the spotlight to stir up publicity, he agrees-in spite of his grumpiness, his protectiveness over Hazel, and his disdain for public attention.

It doesn't take long for their act to bring all those other funny feelings out into the open, and, like most matters of the heart, it quickly begins to feel like anything but a joke.

Good Story, Good Narration

I loved this story about a young comedienne who falls in love with her manager, not realizing that he is in love with her, too. Their back stories, hers about losing a supporting and loving mother at an early age and his about leaving stand-up in order to raise his young deaf daughter on his own, make the development of their characters stand out. In the end, this is a feel good romance with a great story wonderful narrators.

This is the required headline

Audible won't let us just star books we've listened to anymore, so here's some text that I'm sure will be super useful to all the algorithms.

Just ok

Story about love between two comedians. Dragged on too long. Jokes weren’t funny. Narrators, particularly male narrator, did a meh job.

Was good but a slow burner and lost me a few times.

The story was good but a slow burner and lost me a few times. I would give it a 3.5 star.
Spice was meh - I’ll give it a 2/5.

I fell asleep a few times listening to the book.

It was OK

The narration could have definitely been better and the plot could have used some excitement, but it was overall OK.

Fun rom-com!

This was a really cute and quick read. I listened to the audio and the narrators were fun and kept me invested in the story. I loved how relatable Farley was and how Meyer was such a good dad. Hazel was such a cute kid and I loved her relationship with Farley too.

Farley is an up and coming comedian and is invited to go on tour. In order to help gain attention from the press, the team suggest Farley date Meyer, a former stand-up comedian and Farley’s manager!

I loved that they were both pinning after each other! There is some spice but honestly, the tension was everything!

I also really loved the relationship between Farley and Hazel, Meyer’s daughter who is deaf. I also really loved how they would sign to each other and joke around. Their connection was so sweet!

Meyer is honestly such a great guy! He always listened to Farley and was just there! He was there for her and always supported her! Loved him!

Overall, this was such a sweet read and I’m glad I finally got it off my tbr pile! 🥰🫶🏼
