About this listen

In a world of expectations, this quirky, enemies-to-lovers lesbian romance is about making your own path.

The whole "big city, successful career, loyal, hot girlfriend" experiment has been a miserable failure for veterinarian Tess Robinson, so she's moved back home to a small town in the Scottish countryside. She doesn't count on a run-in with the stuck-up, maddening, local landowner Lady Susannah Karlson, who tries to boss Tess around as if she owns the whole town...which she sort of does.

Closeted, wealthy, ice queen Lady Karlson is having the worst year - becoming widowed, being embroiled in a public feud over her vast estate, and now finding herself at odds with the sharp-tongued new vet who has just blown in from London. The annoying woman is so unsuitable to tend her horses, so impertinent, and so frustratingly cute.

As their clashes build and they're thrust together against a back-drop of eccentric village busybodies, class warfare, and deadly dangers, the circling women start to wonder if there might be something more to the rising tensions between them. It can't all be hate, can it?

Contains mature themes.

I've got to start by saying Ruth Urquhart did a fabulous job narrating this book. Susanna & Tess' interactions during their enemies faze through to friendship into lovers were sharp witted and quite humorous. A bit of action towards the end of the book sealed their HEA

Fabulous narration

It takes time to get used to the accent, but once you do this story flows nicely with good characters and great story line.

Good book

I enjoyed the fun and lovely ride through a nice coming together. Narration was great with soothing accents.

Good easy story

I liked the story and loved the narrator. The only complaint I have is that Tess was a bit of a snob at times, but since I think her upbringing and her ex were to blame for the insecurities, I let it go. I think there are a couple of loose ends, but they were more my own curiosity than necessary to the story. I hate bullies and those they inspire are sometimes to be pitied, but not when they do evil things and harm innocent people. I am glad for the fact that the family was reunited, but sad that thoughtless words caused so much damage and required so much forgiveness. Also I can hardly find a book these days that doesn’t have at least one narcissist and this one might have had several with one apparently more of a sociopath. Great listen.

Good story with a HEA

Loved everything about this except while I love this narrator and appreciate the skill she brings to her work, in this story I found it difficult to follow who was speaking. While sometimes accents were shifted, the story was written in a way that without the visual cue of reading it, it was difficult to follow. in an audible situation it might have been better if the tone, pitch, sound etc of the voices shifted too. Just my opinion offered to be helpful otherwise thought the book was great and narration was good.

East story to listen to with real world everyday people lean that I enjoyed

Just some quick comments for anyone thinking of buying this audio book. The storyline was fairly simple, but, if you like witty banter, animals, lesbian romance without unnecessary drama, AND SEXY SCOTTISH ACCENTS, then this is the next book for you. Great narration. loved spending some time in Scotland.

Very Cute!

Love the narrator, Ruth Urquhart. Her voice conveys the humor and passion perfectly. The characters are believable and it is easy care about them and their concerns.

Great Storyline

No real excitement or deep moments/ emotions. Seems like the MCs just started late in the story.. no real build up that hooks.

Story was okay

The two main females are short tempered and bitchy. This is another book that perpetuates the trope that attraction shows up as bitchiness and anger. There are much better books than this one for showing the frenemies to lovers idea.

Unlikeable characters
