About this listen

In this gritty and breathtaking conclusion to the Sorcery Ascendant Sequence, the award-winning fantasy series, a young sorcerer must learn to wield his extraordinary powers to defeat two warring empires.

In a battle of armies and sorcerers, empires will fall.

After young Caldan's parents were slain, a group of monks raised the boy and initiated him into the arcane mysteries of sorcery. But when the Mahruse Empire was attacked and the lives of his friends hung in the balance, he was forced to make a dangerous choice.

Now, as two mighty empires face off in a deadly game of supremacy, potent sorcery and creatures from legend have been unleashed. To turn the tide of war and prevent annihilation, Caldan must learn to harness his fearsome and forbidden magic. But as he grows into his powers, the young sorcerer realizes that not all the monsters are on the other side.

And though traps and pitfalls lie ahead, and countless lives are at stake, one thing is certain: To save his life, his friends, and his world, Caldan must risk all to defeat a sorcerer of immense power.

Failure will doom the world.

Success will doom Caldan.

Great Series, Worth Your Time

First, let me start with the performance. Oliver Wyman does a great job getting you into this story. Individual characters are handled well and not blurred. His voicing for each is distinct. He really brings this series alive.

The first book started quickly, and kept me engaged throughout the series. The story is well written and the characters well done. I won't create a spoiler, but this third book ends well. Kind of an understatement, but I need to leave it at this so you can experience it for yourself.

If you aren't familiar with Mitchell Hogan, as I wasn't when I started this series, take a chance on these books. You won't be disappointed.

A wonderful, consistent performance of an epic trilogy. Loved everything about it and am now very curious about what is happening to everyone now.

Captivating adventure

The characters are well filled in for the most part. While the story moves along nicely and held my interest. I bought all three books because I didn’t want to wait for the end of the story. Worth reading.

Will he succeed or become a sacrifice?

This is one of those series that I'd had on the audio shelf for sometime, just not getting around to tackling the 20 something hours for each book. I listened to "At the Sign of the Crow and the Moon" a while back, gave it 3 stars and went on. Before listening to the series, I re listened to it, now having known Felice, I would most likely go with 5 stars. The prequel also goes in to the Dominion game more thoroughly, which adds to the enjoyment of the series.
Caldan has been on a maturing journey through these books, and everything is about to come to a head, with Kelhak in place to conquer the Empire and the world. By now Caldan has gotten pretty good at figuring out the players in this real life dominion game, but he is still working on harnessing his powers to not only win, but finding a strategy to survive after the win. Everyone wants to kill him now, or use his talents then kill him later. So Caldan at times has to rely on his own strengths to get the job done, even though he does have some strong allies and just doesn't recognize them, other than Miranda. I've binged on this series once I got started, as it's a good story with a great cast of supporting characters.
Oliver Wyman does an excellent job with the narration bringing the story to life. I had to chuckle every time Katelyn spoke of evil, or eeevill as she put it, making her my favorite villain.

Great read - with the credits.

Another great series. There were admittedly a few dull stretches but everything tired in nicely in the end. - Shaun

Amazing

I loved the story and the way it was presented. Great narrator, did an amazing job. Made it seem like they had a person for every character.
