About this listen

The first three books of The Weirkey Chronicles are combined in this new edition, which includes two never-before-released short stories, new appendices, and complete soulhome diagrams.

Betrayed. Murdered. Reborn. One last chance, to make it right. Theo's adventure ended with his mentor's hands around his neck. The betrayal cost him his friends, allies, and everything he had built...but not his life. Though broken and powerless, Theo has one last chance to enter the Nine Worlds, wielding the knowledge and expertise of his first life. This time, he needs more than just power, he needs to unravel the deception that killed him once...and is coming for him again.

This edition includes:

  • The complete books Soulhome, Rainhorn, and Archcrafter.
  • Two new short stories: One Day at the Gate Between Worlds and Lessons of a Gate Merchant.

Getting good

the first and second book were a little slow. the third book steadily got better as I got further into the story.

As always, Travis Baldree did an incredible job.

The miss direction

Started great, but I just don't like the protagonist, cynical.

I wanted to like this series, and I liked one and three better than two. I like the system, but it doesn't really seem a central thing, which is going to sound weird because they spend quite a bit of time talking about it, and working on it. maybe it's how much progress the protagonist makes or doesn't make? All in all, I think it comes back to my dislike for the protagonist so maybe that's just it.

Great Story Arc, But We're Missing Something

I thoroughly enjoyed the first three books in this series as together they form a very satisfying story arc in the series. I am absolutely intrigued by the method of progresssion in this world--nine worlds--as the soulcrafter must build their own soul with their own two spiritual hands. And, just like building a real house, it isn't fast, takes longer than expected at times, and something is always going to happen to delay construction. ;)

The story builds slowly, but the payoff at the end of this arc is very satisfying. I'm always ready to spend more time with these characters and watch them build and grow in all aspects of their lives. I hope more of this series comes to audio soon!

Two problems: In the Archcrafter section of this omnibus, chapters 13 and 14 are flipped. No idea how that happened. It doesn't seriously interfere with that part of the story... it's just a little confusing.
Second, the Publisher's Summary promises appendices... there aren't any. We get the two short stories which are good, especially if you know what happens later in the series, but whatever the extra material is, we don't get it. I assume it has pictures and/or blueprints which are impossible to render in audio, but it was disappointing to get to the end and find it wasn't there.

Travis Baldree does his usual magnificent job narrating, and is actually the reason I found this series in the first place... for which I am exptremely grateful!

Great story telling

Good story narrated well. MC and SC interesting enough to power the story along. I am eager to see what happens next.
