About this listen

After the world is torn apart by a war between elves and humans, an orphaned half-elf must live among the humans disguised as one to avoid the bigotry of both sides.

His life is that of a poor, simple farmhand, but that soon changes when a bard from his childhood reemerges to protect him from a bloodthirsty pirate bent on using the half-elf to open a mystical passage known as the Door of Sight Unseen.

With the help of a mage and a dwarven sellsword he met during their travels, the half-elf discovers that his life may determine the fate of the world.

What did you like best about A Sight Unseen? What did you like least?

I did not like the special effects used in this book. I thought it took away from the book.

How would you have changed the story to make it more enjoyable?

Different narrator and remove special effects

How did the narrator detract from the book?

The first couple of chapters it felt as if the narrator was shouting.

If this book were a movie would you go see it?

No

Any additional comments?

I received this audiobook for free from Audio Blast for my unbiased review. I think this book is geared more towards for a younger audience ages. I would guess the those between 10 and 14 would enjoy this book. I couldn't get into this book. I think a narrator can make or break a book. This book is very formulaic which I don't mind if done well.

standard epic fantasy

What was one of the most memorable moments of A Sight Unseen?

Strangely, it was the story of the boar's attachment to his dwarf. I am SUCH a softie.

What aspect of Kye Grayson’s performance would you have changed?

His voice was not made to mimic women. Aside from that, I thought his voice performance was okay. However, the echo effect was distracting. The monologue on the history of the Eye was too long to have to listen so hard through the echo.

Any additional comments?

This was a traditional epic fantasy with elves, dwarves, and men at odds, and an unlikely group forging a new alliance. The "treasure" at the end was a nice moral to the story, but not surprising. (What was more surprising was that the pirate could still consider his son a sufficient sacrifice after torturing and tormenting him so much.) I enjoy epic fantasies, and this was a nice yarn, but there was little new ground broken in this book.

Fun fantasy.

It was a fun, imaginative adventure and I enjoyed every minute of it. It reminded me of "The Lord of the Rings."
