Publisher's summary

Iolanthe Tennyson has had a very bad year—due in part to the very bad men in her life. So she’s accepted her cousin’s invitation to spend the summer in Austria to indulge her photography hobby. Rumors of a haunted forest there draw Iolanthe into the dark woods—and into the 18th century....

Nikola Czerny is a cursed man, forced by his half brothers to live forever as a Dark One. But his miserable existence takes an intriguing turn when a strange, babbling woman is thrown in his path. Iolanthe claims to know Nikola’s daughter—300 years in the future. She also knows what fate—in the form of his murderous half brothers—has in store for him. If only she knew the consequences of changing the past to save one good, impossibly sexy vampire....

Entertaining and humerous

Would you try another book from Katie MacAlister and/or Nicole Poole?

Yes, I might.

What was one of the most memorable moments of A Tale of Two Vampires?

The character IO's self talk was very funny in most moments.

Have you listened to any of Nicole Poole’s other performances before? How does this one compare?

No, I have not heard her before. She was very good. The humor would have gone flat without her animation. Narration makes or breaks a book!

Do you think A Tale of Two Vampires needs a follow-up book? Why or why not?

The characters were good but, it was not an ending that calls for another book.

Any additional comments?

The story was simple and the characters not complex but, it was humorous and flowed at a good pace.

More of a Carry On Vamp than Interview With A Vamp

You would think, looking at the cover and reading the summary of the book, that this is going to be the usual 'hot 'n heavy' vamp tale - but you'd be sooo wrong.

It's not a dark tale but it is a well written fun filled plot about timetravel with curses, ghosts, double-crossing, lies, great entertaining characters, lots of humour and funny situations. The couple often talk to each other mind to mind with quick witted quips usually about sex but if you took out the mild sex talk and innuendos which occasionally led to the real thing (usually quick and not very descriptive) then this could have been a YA listen.

I had, in a moment of madness or during a sale, downloaded all her Dark Ones books and I've started with this one not realising it's actually book 10 but it could have been a stand alone listen and I will, in time, listen to the rest but more as a break from my normal books as I like the dark, brooding mysterious vamps like the infamous BDBrotherhood.

Worth a credit? Lots of fun, a light listen and very entertaining so Yes, but if I hadn't already of downloaded the rest then I wouldn't continue with the series - not because their bad books or badly written - but because their just a bit too 'light' for me.

Annoying!

Between the characters and the narration, this was one of the most annoying books I have listened to. The book was written in a way that attempted to be "quirky", but it was overkill. Instead of being entertaining, the quirkiness made the characters come across as imbeciles. I couldn't connect with either of the main characters. There was supposed to be this steamy attraction between the two, but it felt really forced and didn't pull me into the romantic connection. I don't think it was a "bad" book, just not my cup of tea.

The narration didn't help at all. The main female character was performed ok, but the guy's voice grated on my nerves the whole time, as did some of the supporting characters.

I probably won't be buying another book in this series, but I might give the narrator a second chance.

NARRATOR IS GREAT / REVIEW

Would you consider the audio edition of A Tale of Two Vampires to be better than the print version?

Maybe, but I like listening....this was a great listen because of the narrator and the story line.
Nichole makes you see the characters and what is happening...she has great inflection and that paints a picture of the story.

Who was your favorite character and why?

yep

What does Nicole Poole bring to the story that you wouldn’t experience if you just read the book?

yep

Was this a book you wanted to listen to all in one sitting?

Nothing, I thought she was great. Made me start looking for more books with her as the narrator. She made IO come alive.

Any additional comments?

This was a great listen....I recommend to anyone who likes this type of reading.

Wonderfully Refreshing

As others, I got this book in the sale bin and took a chance. I was not disappointed. This book is written differently than typical vampire books. There is humour, love and suspense. I absolutely loved the way Iolanthe or IO talks to herself and to Nikola. There mind to mind conversations are hilarious. It is a unique spin on love and romance. There are really cute sexual references and some love scenes but it all makes you smile. I love the way the author has conversations within conversations. Iolanthe starts babbling and then interrupts her own tirade with funny sexual thoughts. If you are into erotic scenes, this will miss the mark but I think the characters are so unique that you will love it regardless. This book is number 10 in the series and I did not know it but you can read it on its own and not be lost by the story. It makes me curious as to how her other books are. If I was going to make a comparison to another book I read, it would be like the Molly Harper books. Funny, quirky but a really enjoyable read. The narrator was great. I will look for more books read by her. She had a lot of accents to produce along with Victorian speech and did not miss the mark. She brought this book to life. I am saying a definite yes to this book.

Phenomenal Narration

Where does A Tale of Two Vampires rank among all the audiobooks you’ve listened to so far?

The storyline was predictable and a little slow at times, but the narrator, Nicole Poole made it a truly entertaining listen.

If you’ve listened to books by Katie MacAlister before, how does this one compare?

This was not one of her best for suspense but the dialogue was exceptional.

What about Nicole Poole’s performance did you like?

Nicole was able to give voice to not only each character with believable tones, but she made the distinction between conversations the characters were having with themselves and others, whether they were voiced or held telepathically , with such clarity I was never confused. I was held engaged by the characters and their personalities clearly defined by their conversation.

If you were to make a film of this book, what would the tag line be?

Don't blink if you have to use subtitles
