About this listen

He’s a grumpy single dad. She’s the one who got away. They haven’t seen one another in years, and now they’re stuck in a hotel room together. And there’s only one bed.

I’ve loved her from the first moment I saw her.
And I’ve loved her every day since.
Whether we’re together or we’re apart—that hasn’t changed.
Which is saying a lot considering I don’t like most people.
But life has thrown us a slew of curveballs and we went our separate ways.
Life, family, jealousy—we let it all get in the way.
I’m a dad now, and my little girl is my world.
And after years apart, Presley is back in Cottonwood Cove.
I don’t believe in fairytales or second chances.
My heart belongs to my daughter now, and there is no room for complications.
Presley Duncan is a giant complication.
A wise man would keep his distance.
But I never claimed to be a wise man.
So maybe we end up in a car together in the middle of a snowstorm.
Which leads to a hotel room with only one bed.
Maybe I should reconsider my stance on fairytales and second chances.
And seeing Presley with my little girl does something to me.
Stirs something inside of me that I thought was long gone.
But I know this is temporary.
She’ll be leaving soon, and I’m prepared to let her go.
Until she’s gone.
And I realize that I’m not prepared at all for life after the storm.

Beautifully written, deep character development, performance that sucked me right in and had me escaping my own life immersed in the story. Jacob Morgan had a genius performance. I fell in love with the character Cage and wanted to move in with him and his daughter. The kid voice was outstanding. The banter on the text messages was so funny!! HIGHLY recommend!!

Loved Story! Loved Jacob Morgan

Great on Audio! 🎧
As always with any book Laura writes, dropped everything to read this one. This book was just so good! I loved the romance, the small town family dynamics Laura writes so dang well, and the appearance of all the couples from this series and Honey Mountain. I had waited for Cage’s book since book one and it did not disappoint! This was a great book to wrap the series up! Can’t wait for the next series!

This is the best one in the series no doubt about it. Only one that had me bawling and up till 2am listening to it. Cage and Presley had the sweetest story. It was just amazingly written, hilarious, sweet, sexy and sad. It killed me and I loved it so much.

4.5...They've all found love! I loved reading all the Reynolds love stories. I had really looked forward to this one. It wasn't my favorite series by Laura but it was still pretty good overall. The sibling banter was comical and enjoyable. I expected Cage to be funnier as he was a grumpy sarcastic hoot in the past books. He kind of made me mad in the end just giving up so easily and I think she took him back too easily and should have made him grovel a bit more. First sign of a little trouble in his life and he basically discarded her like yesterdays trash. It was still a cute story though and I had been most looking forward to him finding love since he was the oldest and had a dry sense of humor that I enjoyed. It didn't come out as much in this book as it did in past books though unfortunately. I liked this FMC though. She was fairly mature and seemed to take most things in stride; she just longed to be loved and to be chosen and once again he didn't choose her, until he did. After everything she's went through and all her heartbreak and life growing up feeling a bit unloved, I expected more from the MMC. That's why I knocked off .5 points. His daughter was a doll though as she was in all the other books from the series. I think Brinkley's story was my favorite because she was so feisty and has a good sense of humor. Narration was great and I would recommend this book to friends. Worth the money!

Good wrap up to the siblings!

After the Storm, by Laura Pavlov, is the fifth installment in the Cottonwood Cove Series. It is a heartwarming tale of a second chance at love between Cage Reynolds and Presley Duncan, former childhood sweethearts filled with sweetness, nostalgia, and life's challenges.

Presley and Cage's romantic journey faced hurdles during their time apart for grad school, causing their relationship to unravel. Now, Cage, serving as the town vet and a single father to Gracie, along with their faithful companions Bob Picklepants, the dog, and Maxine, the pig, finds himself entangled in the complexities of life. On the other hand, Presley, a successful NYC lawyer on the brink of partnership, returns home to care for her ailing father amidst the dissolution of her marriage.

As Cage and Presley reunite, the air is thick with unresolved tension from their past, yet their enduring chemistry is palpable. Despite their efforts to avoid each other, they acknowledge the undeniable connection they still share. Opting to rekindle their friendship, they effortlessly slip back into the familiarity of their past, quickly recognizing each other's moods. Their banter and interactions are lighthearted and enjoyable. However, the true test arises when Presley meets Gracie, Cage's daughter, leading to a heartwarming full-circle moment.

The audiobook, narrated by Jacob Morgan and Emma Wilder, adds a layer of perfection to the narrative. Jacob skillfully captures Cage's grumpy exterior and tender interactions with his daughter. Wilder, an audio queen, embodies Presley's assertive demeanor in her professional life and her warm, nurturing side in personal relationships. Together, they breathe life into the characters, making After the Storm a delightful and immersive listening experience.

Wonderful Second Chance

I really liked the story, however, the male’s narration of Gracie was horrible compared to the female’s narration of Gracie. The two voices did not sound at all alike, and I’m not talking about male versus female voices. I’m talking about the fact that in the male voice, she sounded like she was two years old just learning how to talk as opposed to a five-year-old from the female’s voice. I liked the male narrator throughout the whole book other than Gracie. I love the characters. I thought it was a great story, but if I heard “all those years ago” one more time…..I almost stopped listening to it because of that one sentence being said over and over and over. It almost ruined the story for me. I think the author could have been much more generous in using different words to describe years ago.

Good storyline
