Publisher's summary

Suffering from bald patches thanks to a hair conditioner spiked with depilatory cream - supplied by the murderess in her last investigation - Agatha escapes to the coastal resort of Wyckhadden to allow her crowning glory to recover in privacy. A local witch provides her with hair tonic and Agatha’s lost locks begin to grow - but then the witch is found bludgeoned to death. The elderly residents at Agatha’s faded hotel seem innocuous enough, if a little odd. But, as she enquires into the murder she turns up an alarming number of secrets....

The great series continues!

M.C. Beaton earned my respect with this story. He had his beloved character, Agatha, eat some crow in this book. He taught her that you can't go stomping around other people's lives without inflicting harm AND have harm inflicted on you. I'm glad Beaton took the time to show the secondary consequences of Agatha's behavior as many authors don't take the time to do so. Cheers to you. M. C. Beaton.

Agatha and her adventures: Irresistible!

An Agatha Raisin mystery is like a potato chips: one is never enough!
These little novels aren't great literature, but a lovely diversion,
a 'palate cleanser' especially after a deep dive into a complicated book.
This is one of the better ones: Agatha is always politically incorrect
always cringe inducing, and always a laugh. I highly recommend this series!

Good narrator

This is 1 of the few narrators on here that I can stand to listen to, most of them are like nails on a chalkboard, also it was a really good story,. I enjoy The mystery Series. Agatha Raisen is a commical busibody that actually gets things done, whether meaning to, or not.

Agatha Raisin novels are my guilty pleasure

I found this story enjoyable enough to listen almost straight through. Agatha is such a character--flawed but fearless. I like her even when she isnt likable.
Penelope Keith's narration makes the characters come alive. I have pictures of them in my mind which didnt match at all wih the filmed series.
My only problem was the recording itself. It had annoying and awkward stops and starts as if it was being recorded from disks and in fact at one point it said "end of disk 1". This was the first time I've noticed this in these audible editions so hopefully it wont occur again.

Predictable, But Still Enjoyable

I do wish that Agatha would stop chasing after the unattainable man. It gets a bit boring following the same theme over and over again. I like the light mystery, and I enjoy hearing about the various village characters. But Agatha‘s continual chasing after a man, as though she cannot live an independent life without one, is getting very old.

Diverting

For such an intelligent woman Agatha behaves extreme stupidly. I am beginning to wonder how she became wealthy in business. Overall the story was a good afternoon diversion.

Pauses

I love the Agatha Raisin series and generally like the narrator they have chosen. However, this time there were a lot of unnecessary and uncertainty pauses during the reading. I’m not sure if they were trying to make the reading longer or if the editing was just off but there were points were I had thought my app had crashed just to have her start again while I was going to check it. Hoping it was a one time thing!

OK

I've enjoyed the previous books in the series, but this installment was my least favorite so far. Some of the plot devices in the beginning were so far fetched that I almost stopped listening. I agree with the other reviewer who wished Agatha made better choices.
The editing/production was bad - many unusually long pauses between & in the middle of sentences & between paragraphs. I wish there was a way to rate that without dinging the author.

Suspenseful

This book kept me guessing until the end. I love endings like that. And I adore Agatha Raisin.

Agatha, sometimes you are such a turd

Agatha is always in trouble. I knew it was only a matter of time before someone was murdered. I also waited for the other shoe to drop because surely someone else would be murdered.

Agatha came to this slow moving town where, according to the residents of the quiet, dull hotel, people come to die. It was recommended to Agatha that she seek out the woman who sold magic potions as she needed help growing back her hair. She had lost her hair from being washed with a depilatory in the last book. It was pretty hilarious when her scarf flew off and then her wig.

She purchased a love potion while she was buying the hair tonic, you know, just for kicks, and proceeded to test it out on the local chief detective. This chief detective’s wife died, and Agatha became the first person whom he dated since her death. Agatha, Agatha, Agatha. Sometimes, you are such a turd.
