Pettersen really captures the butcher as a business guy in crazy wild rides. Butcher is simply awsome with an excellent thought processes to captavate your interest at heart. A family man who stops at nothing to keep his family from harms way.

I believe I've read all of the books with Alex Cross as the main character and they are getting less interesting each time. This plot is ridiculously unbelievable as it has the worst villain ever. I hope we can get back to ordinary mysteries without the bizare nonsense. I really don't recommend it.

This was a GREAT book. I loved everything about it. However, I could not seem to get past the extra child that showed up. In the begining, he and his wife have 2 children. Later in the book, he starts talking about a much younger child even though over 10 years have past. What's up with that. Confusing. It was still a great book.

This villain was really crazy and demented but then again, they all are. Two things I really love about this storyline 1) For once, the villain wasn’t personally after Alex and his family and 2) He got killed in the end, and that’s that on that; end of story. I grow tired and exhausted of the villains personally attacking Alex and his family. It seems every book is a personal attack. I don’t mind, it’s just that it happens way too often. This villain was after a fellow mobster, though Alex was after him. Can you say “refreshing!” Also, I’m so glad that the villain was caught and killed, and that was the end of him and his storyline. I always enjoy reading every Alex Cross book regardless. This was no different.

Having said that, I enjoy reading about Alex’s personal life, his family, relationships, friends, etc, as much as I do reading the next villain storyline (if not more). So I’m all in for the continuations of his personal life as well, and I pay attention to those details. I found it interesting that Nana left because she got tired of Alex putting his life in danger. I also found it interesting that Kayla didn’t want to return because she got freaked out after nearly dying. I say this because I really didn’t like the way they treated Christine when her behavior was because of the exact same reasons. Only she had more reason to behave the way she did because of the horrific year-long ordeal she suffered. She’s my favorite so I realize I may be biased. However, it seems she should have been mentioned, if none other than the fact that her disposition was understood and that Kayla and Nana could empathize with her. There was a reason why Christine was the way she was and it didn’t happen until AFTER her abduction. Christine really loved Alex and she really loves her son. Still hoping for a rehabilitation arc in a future book (though I’ve read them all LOL).

I also found it weird that Alex was still wearing his wedding band. Not only has he been in a few serious relationships since Maria died, but he was also engaged to be married again. You mean to tell me, he still wore his wedding band the entire time? What was he going to do when he and Christine got married, continue to wear it? I don’t think so. None of the women ever mentioned his ring until this book. That was a bit weird.

I believe the author was trying to make it appear that Alex missed Maria the entire time she was gone (10 years?). They wanted to drum up deep feelings for Alex about Maria and appeal to our emotions in order to illustrate how much he missed her and how much he wanted to catch her killer. Trouble is, it didn’t really hit right because of all the previous relationships in the previous books. They didn’t tie anything together. Had they said he was in all those relationships because he couldn’t get over Maria, that would have been something to bring it all together and help us understand the Maira plot better. It just fell flat.

Lastly, I thought it was weird for Alex to find comfort in Ali, Christine’s son, and not Damon or Janelle, Maria’s kids. Another reason why I couldn’t get emotionally tied to the Alex misses Maria plot, and why it fell flat. Had Alex gone to Damon or Janelle when he thought of Maria and needed comfort, that would have clutched the heart more but he didn’t. He could have gone to one of Maria’s kids and talked about how much they reminded him of her, and just found comfort in one of them. Instead, he went to Ali, someone that has nothing to do with Maria. The ending drives this point home even more. What were they trying to say? That he had actually moved on with Christine and having Ali was a new beginning for him, and he could let Maria go? Or that just having Ali was a new beginning and he could let Maria go? But how can he think of Ali as a new beginning without thinking about Ali’s mother?
