About this listen

If Alex Cross stops running, he will die...three serial killers are on the loose, and they want revenge.

Detective Alex Cross arrests renowned plastic surgeon Elijah Creem for sleeping with teenage girls. Now, his life ruined, Creem is out of jail, and he's made sure that no one will recognize him - by giving himself a new face.

A young woman is found hanging from a sixth-floor window, and Alex is called to the scene. The victim recently gave birth, but the baby is nowhere to be found. Before Alex can begin searching for the missing newborn and killer, he's called to investigate a second crime. All of Washington, D.C., is in a panic, and when a third body is discovered, rumors of three serial killers send the city into an all-out frenzy.

Alex's investigations are going nowhere, and he's too focused on the cases to notice that someone has been watching him - and will stop at nothing until he's dead. With white-hot speed, relentless drama, and hairpin turns, Alex Cross, Run is James Patterson's ultimate thrill ride.

Critic reviews

"In true Patterson fashion, the story includes every element a good cop tale needs: shootouts, car chases, mysterious characters, and bad guys galore." (John M. Wills, author, former Chicago police officer, and retired FBI agent)

"The Cross family will never be the same! Cross Fire will leave you turning page after page with endless suspense." (Beyond the Bookshelf)

"Lives are lost, people Alex loves are in serious danger, and everyone is afraid that they're going to be next on the sniper's list. This is another great and addicting tale of murder and mayhem - Alex Cross style! I was hard pressed to put it down!" (Bibliophilic Book Blog)

I really enjoyed this book. The characters were great as were most of the story lines.

I couldn't understand how Alex, of all people, didn't think that his house was bugged when all of the private information was coming out.

So good to hear Alex's voice again

If you could sum up Alex Cross, Run in three words, what would they be?

great bad guys

Any additional comments?

Always good crime stories, and great villains. But Alex is a boor. He is continuously doing stupid predictable things that complicate his work and annoy at least one reader.

Cross's personal life is as boring as ever

Would you consider the audio edition of Alex Cross, Run to be better than the print version?

I always enjoy the audible version often after reading the print version. The inflections of the readers sometimes differ from my own on just the reading. Audio always helps with a deeper personality insight of the characters and often the pronunciations of names and places.

What other book might you compare Alex Cross, Run to and why?

Kathy Reichs Bones series. I'll say Devil Bones as an example. Great character insight and development. Rich descriptions and a story that easy to follow with out becoming too technical (for very long) and not making you feel like "I'm going to have wade through this to get to the good stuff". Mostly entertaining with some real world detail about times and places.

Have you listened to any of Michael Boatman and Steven Boyer ’s other performances before? How does this one compare?

Yes I have and this is once again a top notch performance.

Was this a book you wanted to listen to all in one sitting?

This book is action packed and full of more character insight that builds through the entire series. This one more than the last 3 or 4 books really push the one sitting button for me. Listening for me is often a guilty pleasure as I like to immerse myself in the story and not be multitasking as I listen. That said, most good books make me want to listen in one sitting, but as daily life is busy, I make myself find a good stopping point and listen over several sessions.

Any additional comments?

The Cross series not only delivers the mysteries and thrills this type of book is expected to have, but also pulls you into the lives of the supporting characters. Not only do you want to know how Alex Cross thinks and tracks the criminal, but Patterson truly makes you want to know more about the other characters. An example of this for me, is always wanting to know what is going on with the character Nana Mama and learn more about aspects of her life, sometimes separately from the main focus of the story. This book has a good deal of the to offer. If you start reading in the middle of the series, you will find yourself wanting to start at the beginning. It's not entirely necessary, but will add so much more to the story.

If you like Cross this should be in your top 5
