Publisher's summary

"Every child knows how the story ends. The wicked pirate captain is flung overboard, caught in the jaws of the monster crocodile who drags him down to a watery grave. But it was not yet my time to die. It's my fate to be trapped here forever, in a nightmare of childhood fancy, with that infernal, eternal boy."

Meet Captain James Benjamin Hook, a witty, educated Restoration-era privateer cursed to play villain to a pack of malicious little boys in a pointless war that never ends. But everything changes when Stella Parrish, a forbidden grown woman, dreams her way to the Neverland in defiance of Pan's rules. From the glamour of the Fairy Revels to the secret ceremonies of the First Tribes to the mysterious underwater temple beneath the Mermaid Lagoon, the magical forces of the Neverland open up for Stella as they never have for Hook. And in the pirate captain himself, she begins to see someone far more complex than the storybook villain.

With Stella's knowledge of folk and fairy tales, she might be Hook's last chance for redemption and release if they can break his curse before Pan and his warrior boys hunt her down and drag Hook back to their never-ending game.

Alias Hook is a beautifully and romantically written adult fairy tale perfect for fans of Gregory Maguire and Paula Brackston.

If you wonder about what might happen to the supposed to be bad guys...

I’ve read a lot of adult fairy tales recently and this one was quite a surprise in a good way. Why not let the bad guy have a chance to redeem himself? No more spoilers, just linsten to the book and have an open mind.

Interesting take on Captain Hook's story

The narrator, though his voice was pleasant enough, did not read this as a story, but more like work a presentation. He ended each sentence with too much finality, instead of reading in the way of telling a story with unbroken flow.

The story itself was quite interesting.

Captain Hook finds himself cursed and sent to Neverland where he spends the next 200 years fighting against Peter Pan and the Lost Boys.

An adult woman, Stella, finds herself in Neverland after wishing she could eacape the cruelties of the real world.

Hook and Stella end up on a journey of self discovery and growth in a land ruled by youthful innocence for the lost boys, and deadly consequences for going against Pan's wishes.

I do wish there was more to the ending. Hook and Stella never really got their happily ever after, it was only implied at the end.

Unsure

The narration was fine. The story seemed fine but maybe a bit longer than necessary but the plot was good; there was action, conflict, fantasy... It didn’t need the sex scenes in my opinion. It was interesting to listen to an adult version of the fairytale I grew up watching. The only thing is when I paused it, I didn’t really care to continue. The only thing that made me finish it was the fact there’s other books in my library I’d like to get to. Maybe this title just wasn’t for me.

Good story about adulthood

I loved that the heroes were real people and adults. The new twist on a classic was very well done!

Exciting listen

I really enjoyed this for a couple reasons. The first was because it was an adult story without getting too raunchy with the intimacy, and the second was because of the excitement of it. It wasn’t so long that I couldn’t listen to it in a couple days and it reinforced my dislike of Peter Pan, who I have never really liked to begin with! I will definitely recommend this to my friends.

Great Take

I really enjoyed this take on Peter Pan. although I gave it one extra star just because I loved how the mermaids were pertrayed.

Absolutely Brilliant

I found this book absolutely brilliant. I have not enjoyed a Capt. Hook novel since I was a child and this one was written more towards the adult in mind.

Best I’ve heard in a long time

Best free audible I’ve listened to. The story was great and such a cool perspective twist. The narration was very nice. Easily 5 stars overall

Wonderful story

I absolutely loved this adult take on the other side of Peter Pan. Very refreshing point of view while not destroying the original story as would be so easy to do
