About this listen

A gargantuan horseshoe-shaped ship appears over the mining planet Shānmén, unleashing a black rain of death that creates Xenomorph-like monsters worse than the darkest of nightmares.

As war breaks out among the colonies, a huge ship appears over the UPP mining planet Shānmén, releasing a horror that yields hideous transformations. Rescue is too far away, and the colonists’ only hope appears in the form of the vessel Righteous Fury. It carries the Jackals—an elite mix of former Colonial Marines and Royal Marines. Led by Zula Hendricks, the Jackals seek to rescue the few survivors from the depths of the planet, but have they arrived on time?

good

Great story and premise. Too much male bashing. Ruined epic moments by saying someone else sucks.

Another great story

I’m loving all of these alien stories. I’ve read all of them and I can’t wait to read more.

Bloody Good Alien story

I had been meaning to get around to this one for a while and it was worth the wait. Visceral alien monsters, interesting human characters and a propellant burn of a plot. Ignore the bad reviews this is the good stuff.

A strong furthering of the Alien story

I’m excited to see any furthering of the Alien story line and this does an admirable job. It has a truly diverse cast of characters, largely from home and ethnic background of the unlisted co-author, Clara Carija. It has pacing that is more reminiscent of the original Alien than it’s sequels, so if you are looking for face paced shoot ‘em up you’ll need to temper expectations.

It does build on a lot of lore from the films (including the prequels) as well as the Dark Horse comics, so if you are unfamiliar with the extended lore, you’ll need to google who some characters are to get the most enjoyment out of the book.

Entertaining

Felt that it went off course sometimes, however, it was entertaining and enjoyable. Looking forward to reading more in the series

Great story, with every detail of the genre included.

First, I must write about the narration, she mispronounced a few words - the most egregious was when she said “dwadlled” instead of “dawdled” not once, but TWICE!!!!

Other than that, the narrator did a good job.
There was great insight into the synthetic human mind who can feel emotions and the reactions from both genetic humans, other synthetics and AIs to her manner and even her existence. It also demonstrated the emotional links between bio humans and synthetics. Further, there is a character that straddles the line of both - a human within an electronic shell.

This take on the Alien story illustrated the possibilities of using the aliens as a bio weapon. It is also the first book that fully explores the way the aliens incorporate the DNA of their hosts. I am so impressed with the author’s ability to create various alien species and then alter them into hybrid aliens.

There were various “main characters”. One of the co-matriarchs was possibly my favorite of all. In this novel, the concept of family illustrates the way we used to live - with marriages, adoptions, etc. I wasn’t thrilled with the fact that 2 of the marriages were between 2 women each. Don’t we have enough “Woke” examples already? I mean, really - look at the statistics. Even with the current fad of blended sexualities, the percentage of true lesbian partnerships in the human species isn’t that large to account for having two gay couples in nearly every new book that comes out. I went through a period of time in the 1970s-80’s when it was also a fad, and the number of women who stayed involved with other weren’t that many, even among women who were “PC”. My parents had friends who were gay, and I can only think of 4 people who were. This includes a man and woman who were married. My parents had lots of friends of all kinds, most of them were involved in the medical profession. Such a talented writer shouldn’t feel the necessity to cater to this fad in order to sell books. I know Stephen King did, which is a shame. That said, I appreciate the racial and ethnic blend of all of the characters. I really hope this author writes a few more books within the Alien story line!

Not up to par

The story is interesting but feels shoehorned. It picks up after the Events of the previous books and seems to try and tie a variety of alien story lines together and into the Rage wars series but I dont feel it does justice to the characters of the Comics or novels. Performance is ok, there is a few points that really break emersion and are just poorly written.

Well it’s a book.

Light on aliens, heavy on characters with little impact on the story. I want my ten hours back.

Would have been great if not for the reader.

The reader mispronounces so many words that I couldn't just ignore it... it kept pulling my attention away and really hurt my enjoyment of what should have been a great book. A good reader can elevate a book, but one like this really takes away from it.

Not bad but too many characters to meet

Very female centric. Lots of emotion mixed in with the action. Also lots of aliens and some overall story tie-in at the end.
