Publisher's summary

There’s no place like home… until you stumble over a body in your yarn shop.

After spending twelve years in New York City, fiber influencer Sadie Sexton didn’t expect to find herself living back in her hometown of Hoochville, Tennessee. But when her grandmother bequeaths her beloved yarn shop to Sadie and her sister Charmayne with the stipulation that they must run it together for a year, Sadie and her dog Peaches find themselves back in the small Appalachian town.

Despite the somewhat contentious relationship with her older sister, Sadie is enjoying spending time with her childhood besties and Clementine Parker, her Grandma Mae’s best friend and the woman she thinks of as her second grandmother. But the enjoyment is cut short when she finds a body in the yarn shop and the prime suspect is none other than Clem herself.

Now Sadie is on a mission to clear Clem’s name. With her besties committed to helping in any way they can, she’ll stop at nothing to make sure Clem stays out of the slammer, even if it means cozying up to the town sheriff. Who just happens to be the same boy who broke her heart over a decade ago.

Alpacas and Alibis

This is the first book in the series, it's a cozy mystery. It was easy to get through and the characters are well thought out. There is a strive level of undertone that is uncovered towards the end, but highlights an all too real situation. I look forward to see how the series develops.

I voluntarily reviewed a copy of Alpaca and Alibis.

Love the writing, love the reader!

I purchased the 1st book of the series, then bought them all. The series brings me back to the 70's, the era I grew up in, and it's dead on! The sassy sarcasm, it perfectly read by Callie Beaulieu!

A great new series

I loved this book. I didn’t read the title details before I listen to it so it would be a surprise and it was awesome. I loved the characters, though maybe not Sadi’s older sister Char, the setting and the story line. I know want to find and move there. The narrator did a fantastic job voicing everyone and keeping them all sounding unique. My biggest issue with the book is that I have to wait for the next one and can’t start listening today.

interesting

The characters are engaging and eclectic. This was just how I would imagine a small town where everyone is in everyone's business like it or not. How long can Sadie hold off her ex?? I didn't guess the killer and that's half the fun. Char seem to be warming up to her sister , but she's a jealous cat. I voluntarily listened to a free copy of this and am giving an honest opinion. The narrator was good.

The depth of the story

(spoiler alert) The story was entertaining, but the depth and wanting more factor came at the end with the grandmother and friends helping to be a haven for abused women and their children. A bit of a strange juxtaposition with the surface feel of the story, but a welcomed one. The story also lost a bit of credibilty with Sadie blurting out as she stomps over to Reed after finding out foxglove poisoning was used on Ruby. Something that would have not been swept under the rug and dismissed so easily. So the seriousness that Clem brings to end with the haven gave back to story authenticity.

Sill southern cozy mystery

So the story was entertaining, kept me in and wanting to listen. Knitting needles to the eye? Ouch!!!!

However the narrator sounded like it was AI generated- flat monotone and breaking for breathe in weird spots. Maybe it was the first book they narrated? The voices made to sound like the characters were done well and made me laugh - but the internal dialogue was just Bad.
